Re: 72 Blazer-One Owner..pretty much lol

Looks like your making some good progress.
I wonder if you have to pull the gauge cluster out if / when you put a dash pad on?

One item I noticed in the Engine compartment is the heater hoses look like the routing is reversed compared to the factory. Not sure if it makes any difference though.

Looking forward to your updates.

Confirming it is a lot easier to install the dash pad without the cluster or the glovebox installed.

Re: 72 Blazer-One Owner..pretty much lol

I have checked on them thinking they were reversed but what I found showed they were right.

And I don't have the glove box installed yet. I will just have to pull the cluster off to do it. but thanks I didn't know I had to do that to install the dash pad.

Re: 72 Blazer-One Owner..pretty much lol

Update: Got my wheels together. Really like the black with chrome. Got my top on to get the repair started for it. Not gonna really rush it tho since most of the time it will be topless. Hood will be going to paint shop this week to be matched and then bumpers and small here and there stuff.

Also got brakes done. New pads and shoes and wheel cylinders and fluid flushed. It's almost road ready.

Re: 72 Blazer-One Owner..pretty much lol

Been a slow go here lately. Will be picking up the bumpers next month and hood is being painted now. Been driving it trying to get everything broke in good. Has been driving great tho. Really fun to drive and be on the road with this thing again. It's like going back in time.

454 U joint issues

fellow 72 blazer/ 454 CI/ 4 speed owner

it just don't get no better.
recently acquired this here restored 1972 Chev Blazer 4x4, lift kit. has a 454 CI crate engine, straight from GM with barely 1000 miles on it now. 4 speed too.
but I’m blowing universal joints under load. first the rear most one before the diff, and then the forward one behind the transfer case. some breakage on the flanges too, but hard to know which came first. had to pick up off the road my damn drive shaft, twice.

some folks say its due the lift, and the angle the drive shaft has to go down from transfer case to rear end. i doubt it, as plenty of transport trucks driving around with similar set ups.

here’s what i’m thinking: gets a huge amount of body twist under even moderate acceleration. i reckon it’s this twisting/ shearing force.
i had a couple leafs removed from the rear, attempting to lower it. would contribute to the axle torque.

needs anti sway bars bad. possible more frame support cross members.

Id like your thoughts to what this is symptom?

I await you,

Mark Bennett
