Re: Beer belly / steering wheel room needed in 59

Im in the process of putting a tilt mid 70's Camaro column in my 55, I notched the firewall "up" towards the cowl, slid it as far down towards the frame as I could. It gives it a better angle for more foot room and you dont have to tilt it as much... I will try and get some pics soon!

Yuk... Thanks... What about putting a 55 wheel on instead? Any mods required? Will it give more room?

What about a reproduction 15" wheel? Column length can vary depending on what you are using for a steering box/wheel.

I did the 15" wheel, and moved the column up as high as I could. These cabs are definitely cramped. Next truck I do is going to be a stretch cab.

try a cheap aftermarket 15'' steering wheel to see if it will give you the needed belly room
and non dished wheel will reduce the room by the depth of the dish, but it will still be 17'' if it is a 55 1st series

check this out

figure on a min of $1500 to pay someone to do what is in the article
