Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
Definitely hurts to have to wait on product but not running into issues might end up all the same unfortunately. At least you were able to fix the problems tho!

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
I finally got everything removed from the inside and most of the heavy cleaning is finished. The seat and door panel inserts are at the upholstery shop and should be ready early next week. New carpet, floor mats, and door carpets are ready to be installed. The door panels have been cleaned and are ready for fresh dye and new trim. And finally, I went ahead and ordered a new dash from Cheyenne truck and have it ready to install. The plan is to finish cleaning and detail everything, install the new shift indicator and start the reassembly process this weekend.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
I was shocked when I pulled the carpet and insulation mat up myself. My wife asked me if had buffed the floor like I do the dash and doors. The more I work on this truck, I truly believe it's never been touched except for the old repaint. I've not found one replacement part yet, everything has been GM. The only aftermarket parts on the truck are the brake control box and alum intake.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
that is great to find. I found some chicken wire in the cab corners, an entire roll of electrical tape under the hood and dash, a flattened beer can in the filler in the passenger side door, and a number of bolts that I know came from other vehicles. nice floor on that truck huh.

I have a question about a 84 chevy 350 crate motor. I'm trying to get it ready to drag race and my issue is as soon as I floor it. It starts to surge and I just had it to a shop to get tuned and timed. For drag racing. Any tips?

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
I see you are pretty new here Hayden. It would be better if you posted a question like this in a thread you started instead of in someone's build thread. There is a section on engine and drive train where this would be more appropriate.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
The new dash pad went in perfect with zero problems. This is the 3rd Cheyenne truck dash I've used and I think its one of the best on the market. All new carpet and floor mats are installed along with a fresh seat just back from the upholstery shop with a dark blue synthetic leather. And finally, fully restored door panels with new trim and inserts to match the seat. I'm real close to this stage being complete.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
The carpet came from OC Auto Carpets, they're a distributor for ACC carpet. I ordered floor, door carpets, and new floor mats to match.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
Baseball... Thats my life nowadays for sure. I have been working on the truck between baseball games, camping, and dirt bike riding. I got the interior finished up this last weekend, bringing that stage to completion. Next on the list is the A/C rebuild and exhaust.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
As I stated earlier, I was shocked at how clean the floor and dash were. I literally ran the shop vac and wiped everything down with simple green/water solution and that was it.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
That truck looks clean, I have a 1982 custom deluxe, i wish it was a 4x4 and Silverado. It had a inline six original, I dropped a 305, re did transmission and had body touched up. I'm new to this site and still learning how to navigate and post.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
After finishing the interior I turned my attention to the A/C and engine compartment. Someone had already converted the truck to 134 but it had a leak in the system somewhere. After a good look at the existing components and a few metal flakes in the orifice tube, I decided a full rebuild was in order. I removed everything from the truck but the accumulator and started the rebuild. A new 134 cross flow condenser, compressor, dryer, A/C idle solenoid, heavy duty fan clutch, blower motor, and correct O-rings were installed and it held 29in of vacuum for 24 hours. With the system sealed tight, 6oz of oil and 42oz of 134, the system worked perfect. With high side pressures of 200 and low side of 30 the vent temp was 42deg in the cab. I'm getting 40deg at the center vent driving down the road. So with a little detailing that brought that stage to completion and on to the exterior.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Midnight Blue"
This brings me the final stage with this truck, the exterior. I've debated with myself on what to do here. Leave the truck as it was, faded and dirty, or high speed buff the paint / patina and all, or do I scuff it and get a nice flat finish? After a lot of back and forth, I went back to my original plan of a lower budget driver and I decided to buff it. It shined up as well but make no mistake the old paint is rough and well worn. Minus the quarter size rust in the cab corners the truck is rust free and super straight and would definitely be worth the investment to paint it. So this brings my time with the truck to an end. I'm real pleased with how it runs, drives, and rides down the road. And after a few more miles, and a little more detailing, the truck will be on the market.
