I never sweat the Barret/Jackson spectacle....its a show more than a daily reality or actual 'value' indicator.
The guys who attempt to reference its results to portray their trucks values...are usually dreaming, out to lunch....or both, lol. The guys that are the buyers there are usually so far up the financial food chain that this is simply a fun dinner bell for them and an opportunity to hang with a few of their aging posse' to have 3-4 days worth of fun. For most of them...this probably has more to do with blowing off steam than money. Most won't care one way or the other for $10K up or down...that is probably the increment they bid in...and that is probably what they make in a couple of days work of whatever they do. That fact that we have some of this product (67-72' trucks) seem to get some guys going. As for value...a lot of guys have over valued their trucks in my opinion based on the oddity/exception of the Barrett/Jackson thing. I find nice examples of these trucks for $10-$15k every few days, every week that are absolutely ready for cruise night and easy driving. All good Coley

The B-J phenomenon affects project pricing. If someone has one of those trucks and sees "their truck sold for $XX" it suddenly floats all the other ships at sea. I agree it has nothing to do with real world pricing, though they should increase in value as popularity increases and/or muscle car prices continue to be a bit out of reach.
A plain jane Malibu is worth more than my 68 GTO convertible with a factory 4-speed.

My thoughts mirror others here in thinking that the Barrett Jackson effect on the 67-72 market as a whole will be minimal and the overall impact to this group in terms of continued enthusiasm and participation going forward will depend on the ability of each individual to see and recognize that the often wildly high prices paid are a result of the circus atmosphere that is Barrett Jackson and the clientele that are attracted there. I enjoy watching the first few days of BJ as the vehicles rolling across the block are usually "affordable" compared to the later days. I enjoy watching the last few days of the BJ broadcast just to see the what happens when the cash really starts to flow! The cars/trucks/bikes/boats/trains/etc are pretty cool too! Whether my '67 appreciates or has appreciated in value at all during my stent as owner/modifier/caregiver/improver is anybody's guess. I'll just sit back and enjoy it regardless and sip a beer knowing that I have a piece of the revolution no matter where it goes! -klb

Along with my C10, I also have a Corvette and the Vette would be around long after any other vehicle of mine. Now, my Vette is a '79, so not one of high dollar highly collectible ones, but I've never encountered Corvette snobs either. As far as our trucks, I don't think they're getting out of reach. That $125000 truck at BJ was just ridiculous. No one in the real world is going to pay that much.
