Re: Roof skin

I have had that happen before and what I now do is, when choosing a file, I pick the one I want and then upload it right away before choosing another file. you can always remove that file before posting. also, if you take a long time to post because you're pickibg files, you may have to sign in again.

Re: Roof skin

Yuppers, "upload" one photo at a time until you get all you want to or get the five allowed on one post.

Even with my T Mobile WI fi rather than Century link it sometimes is too slow to upload more than one at a time and my other computer was too slow. It's a bit tedious but works. It's just internet and computer speed.

Re: Roof skin

It looks like you have it good enough for a 'patina' finish already!

I'd offer up a piece of glass on both sides of the window opening to ensure the pinch weld is all in a flat plane and the opening has not changed shape.

Re: Roof skin

Looking at that roof I'd say you need a couple of hours with my Eastwood Contour and a good abrasive wheel.

Re: Roof skin

when I get close to what I think is good I use a big fat el cheapo deluxe felt marker and rub it all over the area. then I use some sandpaper on a piece of plywood and rub that back and forth over the area. it works well to show the low spots and is a cheap way to get the job done, makes no mess and, best of all, its cheap.
I'm retired, fixed income, and my wife LOVES shoes and purses, which are more important than shop supplies. lol.

Re: Roof skin

gonna build myself one of these plannishing hammers for work on my own roof. I have one that is on a stand but waaay to heavy to remove from the stand to use on a roof.
japhands has several other tools that look like I "need" too. lol

Re: Roof skin

"after 4 shoulder surgeries I dont hold a dolly at arms length any more"
ouch

if you have a hammer on a stand maybe you already know this, but with a planishing hammer you are going to need some upwards force under the hammer & into the roof, exactly the same as with a dolly. If you just let the weight sit on top of the roof and run it back and forth you will have trouble controlling where it is moving metal too.
So when you build the hammer think about some way you can have a lift assist, a hook, rope, pulley and counterweight or foot stirrup might be simple ways.

Re: Roof skin

Thinking of ratchet strap or basic pull style tie down from overhead hook in shop. Maybe park under my steel shop airlines and hang the tool from them

Re: Roof skin

I joined that gotta fix a bunch of dents in the roof and have bum shoulders club yesterday when a local rodder gave me this cab after I had posted on a local group that I was hunting for a cab for my 48 . Rust free 51 cab that even came with the column shift and linkage rods.

I'll start a build thread or what my daughter might call an unbuild thread as the intent right now is to have a running and driving truck by July.

He actually bought a 48 Ford cab for a yard art project and had a friend with a rollback go get it and this came with the Ford.

It would be the perfect candidate for the front half of my stretched cab project but Stretching the cab, chopping and sectioning it and getting everything done is going to take too much time and not meet the deadline.
