I would have ls swapped mine and traded you! Heck of a lot easier than doing what I am doing currently.

That is for sure! I have everything needed to LS swap this truck but I already did that to my 87. I wanted to put a duramax in this thing but the cost is a little crazy, same for cummins so I selected the 6.5 TD. It should be all I need and then some.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'91 Crew Cab Short beds?

Hey everyone, brand new member but long time Chevy truck guy. I was just searching Google for CCSB trucks, and found this thread. Just thought I'd post a pic of mine. Bought it back in February of this year as a roller w/transmission, since then I have converted the front clip/doors from a 90 Suburban and used the stock 350 from the Burb to get it running. Just got it on the road this past 4th of July weekend.... and discovered a BUNCH more that needs to be done! LOL I've been a square body lover since my youth (mid 80's), and owning a CCSB with stepside has always been my "unicorn". Here is a current pic, as of July 4th but there is a bunch more work to do! Shown with my nephews CCLB on the left. Pic at the bottom is from when I originally bought it.

Did they make crew cab short beds in the late square bodies, or do you have to build one?

You have to build one. GM never built a crew cab shortbed until the '99 model year with the GMT400 trucks.

Bump. Starting mine soon. Looking for ideas. Plan is to keep it 2wd using everything off a 08 single cab. Duramax/ Allison etc. basic reupholster inside. Minimal body work.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Here's my truck when I picked it up last year.

And how it sits now.
