Dyeing success, is all about prep. Through cleaning, with either Dawn or SEM soap, that’s the small blue bottle. Next is using SEM plastic prep and then Adhesive Promoter. I use the wet on Adhesive Promoter, and your first very light coat of dye goes on while it’s still wet. The dye, I don’t use SEM, they have discontinued a lot of ours colors for our trucks. After that, just very light coats of dye. I’ve seen to many times, that people dye without any sort of prepping, and if the parts have any sort of oils on the parts, that would explain it peeling that easy.

Just completed a Black Vinyl Deluxe Benchseat and it’s headed to Massachusetts. Fully restored 81-87 seat, using an original foam.

The seat in the above post was delivered. The trucks owner sent a pic after he got it installed.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered

I have spent some much needed time on getting more of the seat tracks restored. I’ve been letting them pile up, because they are not fun to do. But I’m getting down to my last few tracks that are restored. So it was time to get busy.
First couple of pics are how they start out, before Restoration.
Next are after they are rust free. Some of these were not sliding, because of the rust and build up of gunk over the years. But once I get them restored, they slide like new!
Final pic, is of them painted and ready to use.

First time doing this color, 84-87 Blazer Gray. It’s lighter than the Charcoal, but I love this color!

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered

Got several core seats to strip down for restoration. Making all necessary repairs, as usual. These are some of the more common things I see and repair.

They get welded back up, better than factory. Some of these welds only have a couple of tac welds! It’s a wonder they break.

Picked up a pretty nice seat & belts. These will make excellent candidates for restoration.
