Re: 75 Dually build

No one's mentioned it yet, so I'll just throw it out there, that lip is for maintaining hub centricity between the hub and the duals. It is (naturally) larger on a DRW hub as it needs to center two wheels as opposed to one. GM hub bore for those wheels should be 4.56" if I remember correctly. An adapter or spacer with that ID shouldn't have any interference issues.

The adapters are designed for and fit perfect on DRW 14 bolt hubs, the issue is with the 3/4 or 1 ton SRW hubs. I have never tried to fit my OEM dual wheels on the SRW hubs but I would guess if they are hub-centric they would also have issues with that lip.

75Dually is running a 3/4 ton rear axle.

My factory DRW Dana HD70 has that lip as well.

That is odd, when I was measuring both SRW & DRW hubs for my spacers I measured squares and GMT-400s, found them all to be right at 4.56"...it was just over 4.5" but under the diameter of the lip on a GMT-800.

Re: 75 Dually build

So I got out for lunch today to take my son to Academy sports to get the last items for school, so I took the dually to make sure that I had no more vibration issues. Whew it looks like that did it! I still have to go get the front end aligned, but at least that is a normal part of any vehicle.

Now I can get on with some other projects, the bed, AC, finish the interior... You know simple things like that!

Not trying to muck up 75Dually's thread more but I guess I sorta am anyways.

This is the DRW hub

And here is the SRW hub turned down to fit the adapter.

Both have the lip but the SRW lip needed to be turned down. I didn't measure it before I had it modded, I just brought the adapter with to the machine shop and asked for an almost press fit to keep it hub-centric.

That's why I'm in the shop so much, the weather has been great!

I can't wait to see what everyone thinks about what I'm working on. This is going to be polarizing. Either your going to like it or not... Either way the opinions are going to fly!

Oh now I'm being a tease again! Dang it!

Stay tuned!

It's more a state of mind. Seems people today choose one side or the other on any subject... You'll see...

Re: 75 Dually build

OK I decided to give ya'll a hint. The guys on Garage Forum were dying to know so I gave them this pic tonight after all my hard work today. Yes it is bigger than a bread box, and it's under that blue tarp. Let the guessing begin!

Re: 75 Dually build

OK I caught a nasty chest cold and I can't work on the Dually for a while. However I have been wanting to do a video build series on it from the beginning to current day. So I got part 1 completed tonight. Check it out and let me know what you think.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcGJa-OTZyM

I should have the mystery item completed in a couple of weeks, health permitting!

Stay tuned!

Thanks! That way I can use all the old build photos and keep the timeline consistent. It was interesting trying to weed through the big file I have on this build. I was going through it and saying hey I remember that! I'm am however glad to be further along and it being a driver now. I still have a bunch more to come in this series. Should be interesting!
