Tim, could the plant of manufacture had something to do with the woodgrain molding. I had never seen a Highlander without woodgrain molding, that I know of, until I joined this site.

Yes, we touch on it often but everything points to all the original GMC trucks with the Highlander Plaid trim having the cluster face and glovebox door painted a fawn color. If you look at page forty down at #397 and follow the thread you can read a little more where we really looked at leh72super1500's truck.

Basically they used the same fawn color as they would have been painted on a parchment trim GMC truck.
Seems that "special combination" planning didn't catch the harsh glitch. Since Chevys used body color for these two parts it isn't an issue on Chevy trucks.

Well that is a much harder question to give a blanket answer to.
Both black and woodgrain were used on Highlanders optioned with the lower bodyside molding. Of the few buildsheets I have had access to both are seen coded to the truck at the same plant. So it isn't an assembly error. To get much deeper will require a lot more research and documentation that often isn't there for many assembly plants (IE Highlander build sheets).
At this point my stock answer still remains to use what you feel the truck had originally. If it is missing, post up the vehicle and we will try and match a close truck or two for a good guess on what to use.

I pulled the seat out of the truck to take the Fingerhut seat covers off so I could clean the grime that has collected for 44 years. The plaid is pretty weak but the vinyl is amazing and cleaned up really well. There are a few small holes from springs poking through that will need repair. I intend to keep the original vinyl and replace the plaid.

I'd suggest a few local repairs (in place) and another clear cover to protect it.

Sorry I missed your earleir post with this question too.
Ditzler 23374 "Dark Sandalwood" for the door and the flat for the cluster should be 23375. If you have an original door I'd suggest trying for a color match on the inside at your paint supplier.

This truck was post #343 in this thread. I had been looking for a Highlander for a while and when I showed it to my wife she instantly said "Buy It". The color combo is so different than what you usually see these days. It has original everything on it and everything works. One question I have? When I park it and accidentally leave the lights on, it has a buzzer that sounds like you would hear in a 1973 and later truck. I have owned many 72 trucks and none of them had this option. Was this ever an option on our trucks or is it aftermarket. Thanks. And thanks to this thread for connecting me to this truck

Congratulations on your "new" truck and I am glad it has an appreciative home. The P01s and whitewalls look great back on the truck.
The buzzer could be a GM accessory or aftermarket but they existed. Either way they can be nice to have.

I've seen a lot worse. Without seeing the spid it's hard to Tell if it could be a real Highlander or just a promo packaged truck. 2 grand ain't bad if you got the other ten to restore it to its former glory. Looks to have the colorectal door panels and dash cap and seat pattern though

Door panels are right color but steering column should be black if its a Highlander but it could have been changed over the years especially if it had tilt. The seat is right and the dash pad should ben black also but it has cloth cover over it.

On my phone the dash pad looked black. Couldn't tell It was cloth. The column could have been changed like you said.

Depending on how much this truck has been futzed with it MIGHT be a Hidden Highlander. Black trim bits, carpet and painted white door panel are a strong suggestion. In any event it would be interesting to see the SPID, more so if it is a 519 Dark Yellow as well.

That has been up before or was it a private review? No matter! The painted weatherstrips give pause as to what other surprises are hiding under that paint.

Here's my recently purchased Highlander. Aside from one repaint, and one missing wheel cover, it is completely original and unmolested all the way down to the wood floor in the bed and the original AM radio. Bought from the original owners.

welcome Brent - thanks for sharing. Real nice highlander you have there, and a pkg c truck to boot! - dk green is not a common color for highlanders (because of the interior color options) - most seemed to go with one of the olive paint options with the avocado plaid. Yours looks great and the colors go together well. For the PA1 cap, I THINK they are common with a few early 70's cars, or perhaps they're just close. Anyone know if that is true? Again, welcome to the site.
