Re: Trucks in the Wild
Here is a really cool photo I ran across from a cover of a book.
The book is about the largest mule deer that was shot in the state of Idaho. The picture has three or four large deer tied down to the roof of a GMC truck.

Re: Trucks in the Wild
Cool pic of the GMC with the deer. What seems strange to me is what looks like (4) guys in the cab. I get a little weird about (3) guys in my truck. A woman in the middle is fine, but rubbing legs with a guy is not fun

Re: Trucks in the Wild
3 or 4 people in a truck was common back in the day. As far as loggers commuting to the woods for work it was everyday. Gas was expensive and truck pooling saved money.
Winter time with extra clothes things were tight. You would take your coat off and it and your work boots would ride in the tool box to make more room. Nothing like stepping out of a warm truck to put your boots and coat on in 10 degree or colder temperatures. And your clothes have been riding in the tool box for 50 miles. With a 4 speed the rider next to the driver was expected to move the shifter so they could move their legs as the shifter moved. I find the California plates on the truck interesting. They may have drove from California with 4 people.

Re: Trucks in the Wild
I was one of two passengers in the cab of a friends automatic k10 swb driving back to ABQ from a series of concerts in Phoenix December of 1991. We ran into a friend who needed a ride back to ABQ so he rode in the bed. We got stopped that night on I40 by a NMSP trooper. He had us cram our buddy into the cab so didn’t get hypothermia. In retrospect he wasn’t dressed for the temperature and admitted being cold. So we kept on with four guys in the cab.

Re: Trucks in the Wild
After a long wait and a tragic situation, I ended up with this 67 Step side.
I had recently met Ms Marrie McDaniels by stopping and asking about this truck. She explained that it was her husbands which passed away in 1974 I believe. We struck up a conversation, which turned into a sort of friendship. Ms Marrie was, I think I'm correct, 97 years old at the time. She had lived in the 2 story house there since she was born. We we sit on the front porch and talk for quite a while each visit...I mainly listed to the stories of her past. Around a year ago I received the call....Ms Marrie's house from birth caught fire in the night. She passed over to the other side. (not sure how to rotate...appreciate anyone help with that...) Recently her only daughter contacted me and offered to sale the truck. Sadly some idiot hooked to the grill trying to put it away. I paid up a little for it...had to...it was my friends truck...Ms Marrie. |

Re: Trucks in the Wild
Very nice story. Nice to know the truck is in good hands as well. I need to remember that friendship is more important than trucks, but my love of trucks can lead to new friendships.
