Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
It's only from a 69 not that old
What you mean there points on that motor? sounds good to me I think this weekend when i get it down I'm actually going to tear it town some and clean it up some cause you can tell theres grime and stuff built up on it, maybe do a quick and easy new and improved paint job for the motor.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
Yeah no it is a standard tranny but I dont know if it's a 3 speed or 4 speed. I was going to turn around and sell it honestly because I won't have a need for it.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
You can check the engine with the numbers on the right side (drivers side) behind the head. It will tell you everything you need to know. If it's a 350, that's a good deal. You might as well tear the whole thing apart and rebuild, it won't cost much for a kit for that engine. Also make sure you replace the cam bearings, a lot of people over look these when doing an inexpensive rebuild. Not replacing may cause your oil pressure to be lower than you want.
If you have a smart phone you can get the info for the engine easy....

BTW, your dizzy, intake, and everything from your 305 will work fine on that motor....

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
Korwin the casting numbers are on the block, this should help for future reference.
http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/casting.html If you have to check one in a vehicle you can use silly putty (great to use when buying a vehicle!). Press it on the numbers and read it in a mirror.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
Thanks Scott!!! Yeah thankfully I had a buddy with me and he told me to ask for the casting numbers so we ran them then found out the ugly truth. But I had already planned on checking the heads cause I know that'll tell you the motor size too.

It's good to know what heads are on an engine but heads won't tell you all the time, always check the block.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
You also need to be carefull looking at the heads as those are easily switched out. Sodell is right, always check the block. It's still good to know what the heads are from, but if I'm not mistaken, the older heads don't have 5.7 stamped or cast into it. Most of the 60's and older American manufacturers parts that I've seen will show the cubic inches cast into the block, but nothing in the heads to tell what size motor you've got. I could be wrong... I know I haven't seen them all And I've never seen a casting for Liters on any American motor from that time frame. Newer blocks, yes, all day every day, but not so much on older blocks.
I would not advise spending any money on painting an engine without first knowing that it runs and you're not going to do any machine work to it. If you've got to take it to a machine shop, there is a very good chance you'll have to repaint it.

Make sure the engine is free and not stuck. Even at 100 bucks it would suck if it were stuck

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
Well it's not much of an update but wanting some advice from you guys, I'm thinking of just doing a rattle can paint job for the time being getting tired of looking at primer the picture I have is the underside of the hood and the blue patch you'll see is the paint color I want to use until it really gets painted what you guys think? I'm also thinking of trying to create some ghost stripes just to make it look cooler so let me know what you guys think.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
Let me first warn you that most pro paint shops won't paint a vehicle that's been rattle canned without first stripping it all off. Something about the chemicals reacting and not allowing a good bond for the final paint job to stick. Not sure how true that is but I've heard it at lots of shops in Oregon where I grew up and I'm still hearing it down here. Even got the "don't use rattle can" from the bed liner place I want to use to reline mine.
If you plan on stripping it anyway, go for it. Did you use rattle can primer? If so then you can paint away since you'll probably have to strip it anyway. Maybe ask the question in the autobody and paint section and see if some pros can give you a better answer. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
Yeah I had already rattled can primered it, if a shop would of done the primer I wouldn't have even thought about touching it but since I had already done it myself with rattle cans I figured what the hell, it's going to be stripped before it gets painted. But glad I got a heads up before because if so I would of been making a big no no as you could tell.
Thanks for the heads up Duane! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite
Use a different color primer, maybe black? And then you wont have as much of a problem, and it will look semi cool...
