Hey all;
Today I removed the rear axle so I can clean it up and do the disk brake installation. I had forgotten how much of a pain it is to remove one of these. These small dollies from harbor freight are great for moving the rear axle around. |

Hey all;
I got up early this morning and started the rear disk conversion. Getting the drum backing plate off is a pain in the arse because of 45 years of rust weld on the bolts. I ended up using a cut off disk to cross hatch the bolt heads and then used a punch and a hammer to knock the heads off the bolts. Last edited by Xeen; 06-24-2014 at 12:54 PM. |

Hey all;
I completed the bracket installation on one side and called it a day. CPP supplied some T-bolts for the brackets and I'm considering replacing them with a conventional bolt. |

To bad you didn't sand blast the rear axle housing before you installed the disk brake bracket. It would make your work look a lot better. Anyway good luck with the weather. I stayed in side today 92 outside.

Hey all;
The axle seats are going to need to be changed out before I put any serious miles on the truck because they are in really bad shape and deteriorating more every day and since I'm not a welder I'm going to have to take it some place. |

Hey all;
Here she is all put back together with the axle tubes painted. Once I get the axle seats replaced I will go ahead and paint the differential housing. This has been a bear of a job definately not my favorite thing I've had to do on the truck. |

If you were local I would sand blast the axle housing for you. But you know that already.

Parts ordered today: Rear shocks for 4" drop. Universal flex radiator hose 15.5" long and 1-1/2" at one end and 1-1/4" at the other end to adapt from the 5.3L vortec water pump to the 2001 camaro radiator. |

Hey all;
Today's entry is called adventures in Power steering hose adapting. So I set out today with the goal of adapting the power steering pump from my 2003 Vortec (O-ring) to 1968 c10 high pressure power steering hose (Inverted flare) after being totally foiled on my own I decided to look here on the board in the LSX swap section for an answer and bingo there it was http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=634406 so after googling the 4-seasons part# 16746 I came up with the interchange part on Ebay which is "MALE O RING TO MALE FLARE A/C ADAPTER FITTING KIT #6" ordered it and when it gets here I will be in business. The end. P.S. I have some extra adapter fittings because it came in a 4 pack so if anyone needs one for their conversion send me a PM and if I still have any left we can make a deal. I have been doing a lot of odds and ends getting everything buttoned up this week. Radiator hoses: Done. Power steering: Low pressure return Done, I'm waiting for the adapter to hook up high pressure side. Rear shocks: Done. Next on the list: 1) Install Parking brake cables. 2) retrofit brake booster hose. 3) Wire ignition. 4) Modify accelerator assembly. 5) Fabricate radiator mounting brackets. Hey all;
Adventures in retrofitting continued! The 1971 brake booster check valve is a different size on the hose end then the 2003 vortec check valve but I thought there was a pretty good chance the booster side of the check valve would be the same for like 50 years so off to the salvage yard I went and got a brake booster check valve out of a random 2000's chevy car and I was right so retrofit complete and I now have power brakes. |
