Re: 51 Gmc
The parts that I weld to are stripped and sprayed with a weld threw primer. The other parts are just butted up until I replace them. ( firewall, toe board, Kick)

Re: 51 Gmc
I got most of the patch panels done on the cab,(inner and outer cab corners, gas filler hole, inner and lower outer cowl, radio hole, side vent shaved). I cut out the fire wall to make room for the *****in one. Hopefuly I will have that done in the next week or two. Then I can move on and get the rearend in.

Re: 51 Gmc
It's been busy but I got some more work done to it. Here's some pic's.
I've got the *****in firewall, inner fenders' and rad support installed. The hole's in the dash that I don't need filled. The rear fenders on with the smooth runningboards. The truck will be getting back halfed soon to make room for 29x18x15 rubber. I'll post pic's when thats done. |

Re: 51 Gmc
Your progress looks great. What brand of tires are those. I have 31x18.5 Mickey Thompson Sportsman. It will be quite a while before mine is driveable but, I'm sure it will have a rear tire shake. Every M/T Sportsman rear tire I have ever ridden on has had a shake. Let us know how you like your rear tires when it is up and running.

Re: 51 Gmc
Did you buy the filler panels for your gas filler and louvers, or make them from "leftovers"?

Re: 51 Gmc
I just found this thread. I'm building a 49 GMC. And this is my first build as well.
You are doing some great work! I like the big ol' wides in the back thats wild. My build will be more of a budget rod, in the traditional style. Last edited by sn33kyp3t3; 08-03-2009 at 10:15 AM. |

Re: 51 Gmc
I made the gas filler from a leftover chunk of the cab corner so it had the right shape. The louver filler was from the top part of the driver side outer cowl repair panel I had left. I only needed the lower part so the top worked great for the other side.

I just got my truck back from getting back halfed at SandDale fabrication In Winnipeg. These guys are the best I can't beleave the work that they do.
Check out there web site at www.sandalefabrication.com and see some of the projects they got going on. Dale's building a 47 Chevy for a shop truck there's pic's on his site. He talked me into going with a 33x21.5 tire, man thats a lot of rubber. Here's some pic's |
