Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)
Yeah, I flew into Houston for a training session that was supposed to be Thur, Fri & Saturday. Get a rental car, and as I'm parking at the meeting place in Deer Park, they call & it's cancelled So I call Delta & catch a flight leaving back out at 4:05 that same afternoon. So I'm WFO in a new HHR back to International Airport...Anyway I was back at home late last night. Didn't want to get stuck there trying to escape with everyone else
I like visiting other places, but I LOVE where I live!...There's no place like home; There's no place like home; There's no place like home

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!
Special K, Gustav was worse than people think. My sister lives in Baton Rouge and she still doesn't have power.
Looks like this thing is going to hit near Freeport. If that happens Corpus will be spared, but Houston will be in the line of fire. |

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!
I have decided to stay put, the storm is turning far north, so I am going to just roll with it and camp out here, cook some food and have a good weekend hopefully. At least I get 3 days off, and still got in 47 hours this week with everything going on.

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!
Yeah, now Ike is heading more northerly and Arkansas will get blessed with the fallout, after Texas has finished with it. To add to the insult, the Texas-Arkansas football game got postponed.
We don't need no stinkin' football when we got a hurricane! Folks got to have a place to go when the water is risin'. Austin is gonna have a lotsa visitors. East Texas (a whole 'nother state) is gonna get soaked. God Bless all of y'all what lives in the path of these storms. I like Texas (wife is a native Texan) but all my ex'es live there, too....there's only one, but she lives there in northeast Texas, so she's gonna get soaked, too. Now gitcherstuff and git outta the way!!

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!
Looking at the national weather service tonight it shows that the overall size of Ike is wider across than Katrina by a hundred or so miles. Pretty wide load coming. Batten down the hatches Texans. Especially those of you on Galveston island. Could get deep there and the largest fuel refinery in the US is located in Baytown not far away.
Some Exxon guy was in a gas stop today saying they expect gas to jump up $1 per gallon shortly.

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!
I hope your evacuation is safe and not a c.f. like it was here in New Orleans for Gustav. It took my wife & sister 9 hour's to go 120 mile's!! Be safe and good luck on whatever you decide to do.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)
...Houston Area Safety Council on W th Street. Wish I'd had time to look around. Saw an Offroad shop on ?Hwy (between South Houston & Center Street). Would've been cool to check out, but the trucks sitting outside looked like they wouldn't ever dare see the mud!

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!
Please evacuate the truck.
Having ridden out Katrina, George, Elana and several earlier storms, I feel a little experienced. I live about 12 miles north of the Gulf on somewhat high ground. If you live in a low area close to the Gulf around Houston, Texas, things are are going to be a lot different in about 24 hours. If you are planning on staying , I make this plea: Please evacuate the truck. We have a good supply of idiots but they are not making 67-72 chevy trucks anymore. Save the truck because there are others, not in your category that could enjoy it. EdB |

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!
House is boarded up and the yard is clean . Winds on and off as of now . Now rain to speak of yet . Probably 5 to 6 foot storm surge , with some low area flooding . I am 26' above sea level . The national guard , city police and city civil services set up a temporary command center just down the road in the junior high . We have 4 to 5 days work of supplies . Gonna be a long night . Both tanks on the trucks are full . Fixin to start BBQ . I'll update till the power goes .

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!
I work for a national electrical service company, I expect to see the phone start ringing off the hook. Good thing I have a job lined up for Oregon starting next week, I can avoid the initial brunt of the fix-up work if things go really bad.
