I've been meaning to ask, did you get that Suburban off ebay? There was a nice one just like it for sale (in Arizona, I think) some months back.

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

Truck came from California ... I only used the frame and body , I have not got to the inside yet but will need a full interior .
Paint is sun fadded and needs a total strip , think is has that water base primer ...that sucks .

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

I can't wait til it hits the road too ...LOL I'm trying for mid summer , I just have a busy life and pic at it any spare time ... plus I quit drinking so that helped .
Thanks guys

Made a little progress over the weekend , got the rear spring perches and pinion angle all set and welded in .
Made up some rear mounts to bolt on the Ranchhand rear bumper ... looks pretty good in the position its in right now , I'm going to have to modify the hitch and possible bring the bottom of the bumper lower since my state is a jerk off state when it comes to bumper hight ... 30 inchs ... and they try and count the frame . No worries there I was a inspection mechanic .
Started on the front , little more fabing than I planed ... I just ordered a Warn 16.5 ti winch and just started to machine up some front frame horns for the new bumper .

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

Made a little more progress on the Sub , Trying to find time to pick at the truck , pretty busy with work .
Got the bumper all set in place I have to add a little more metal to the bumper , the winch mount is also in place and is more of a bumper than the bumper ...LOL
Got the track bar also in place , seems like these springs are going to work well with my build .

OH MAN!! That is going to be one sweet rig. That winch mount and bumper should make the springs settle a few inches too HAHA

Very nice. Yeah, I agree those springs are needed with all that weight up front.

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

Actually the springs were designed to handle that kind of weight ... really only dropped a 1/4 inch with but really made those spings flex , I got my Bilsteins in and they should add damping that I am going to need .
It was a pretty crappy day with all the rain we got , I managed to get the winch mount all dressed up and got some POR15 sprayed on them so I can assemble that tomorrow .
The color was just the left over POR 15 from the underside of the body ... it will get top coated black once it is assembled .

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

Found some time to get the tires on the front to check the bumper and other clearance parts ... looks good but have to trim the corners of the bump ... Its a little bigger than the original build plan but everything seems to fit ...
Just made up a mount for the PSC remote resivour .
The truck has taken off and dictating is own size at this point ...LOL

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

Managed to get the AC lines combined , I'm running the factory Dodge Sanden compressor which is a pretty good compressor , seems a lot of the aftermarket companies use them .
Also managed to get shocks all mounted up , made up a quad shock mount , I'm running 2 Bilsteins and 2 BBCS .
Also installed the PA performance alternator installed , its a 200 amp single wire alt with a built in regulator .
Got the stainless hydo clutch line and slave cyl all connected up , just need to bleed .
Next is to finish the steering assist and start mocking up for the radiator and intercooler combination .

I have been hitting my project pretty hard these past 7 months , I forgot how much work these builds really are .
I still have the outside of the body to go ... i'm kinda looking forward to that ... its when all the custom stuff is done .... Body work is cake compaired to what i have done so far ... LOL

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

Got alot of the hydro assist hoses run and in the position . Also started to sort out the basic wires that are going to be needed , I was going to go with a pull cable to turn the fuel on and off but had a few of these cummins harness sitting around so I am going to stay with the P-pump solenoid set up . But I am going to connect the Hi-ram relay to a heaver ford style starter solenoid .
Also got the throttle cable connected up , went with a 2nd gen dodge diesel cable and it fit like it was designed for the truck , I was very happy about that .
Just keep picking at it !

Just got her fired up on the bottle , seems to sit really nice in the chassis , I may add a torque dog bone just for the remote resivour for the steering .
Had one leak in the vacuum pump Oring so had to pull that apart and put in a new viton Oring , sucks because I had that pump are to put a new main seal for the steering pump .

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

Found some time to work on the big girl ... I had fired her up and go all the little steering leaks fixed , hydo assist seems to work perfect ... you can turn the wheel with one finger , even with 40's .
Moved on to the brakes , made up a mount for the proportion valve , bent up some new lines , had to use some of the older fittings off k30 , sucks I ordered a new flare kit ... it sucked , seems the new kit was squeezing the tubing more than I was comfortable using could have restricted flow ... went back to my old forged kit and the flares were perfect .
I also added a torque link to the front of the motor ... had concerns that the motor with a load could possibly cause a leak over time in the steering hose connections .

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

Thanks buddy , just checked out your build ... Very nice , you put in some time into that rig ... mine sucks time up like crazy and some money too ...LOL
I was lucky to find a set of trailmaster traction lift off a user on here ... someone jerked off Bryan ...AKA ( SWYfor5 ) I found a post that was 10 months old and he still had them ready so ship ... for my build these are great , had them on other trucks years ago .
So I put them on yesterday , I built in to my rear axle to have adjustable perches and upper plates ... never thought I would use it .
I had to move my rear axle forward 1 inch for driveshaft and e-brake reasons ... seem to work out well . Think I may have lost a degree of angle on the rear pinion .. I should get that back once I finish the rear bumper and put the fuel tank in should put some extra weight and push that pinion down a degree of 2 .
I also managed to get my rear shocks and mounts installed this morning . I'm going to put in a hour or 2 put in the fuel and brake line mounts ... Think I'm going to hit the pub its been a long week ...LOL

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered

One question....did you fix the Killer Dowel Pin in the motor yet? If you havnt it would be sooooooo much eaiser to do without anything in front of the motor. Its is an easy fix any way but I would have loved doing mine standing up it front of the truck the entire time.
