Re: 1978 GMC Build!
SO here is my question....DO you think it will still maintain the same hailing capacity with the lower stance? Thats what worries me when i think about lowering my truck

Re: 1978 GMC Build!
Jranger, No it will not be able haul anything. If i did a airbag over leaf option i could haul what ever i want, but as it is it is almost on the bump stops. So if you want to be able to haul i would do less of a drop. Mine dropped almost 8 inches because i have the 8 spring leafs in mine. shackles and hangers will get you around a 4 inch drop in the rear. I did 2.5 inch drop spindles and cut 1.5 coils from stock springs in front and bought new spring perches for my flip in the rear.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!
So let me double check what you did...3 in spindles and 3 in drop spring = 6" and rear you did 8" so aa 6/8 drop? I might do like a 2/4

Re: 1978 GMC Build!
2.5 spindles, Cut 1.5 from springs=roughly 3.5 inches. so yes 6 in front and around 8 in back. You could buy 2.5 spindles for around $220-$250, Then get drop hangers and shackles for your 4 inch drop in back. It would cost a little more then mine, but you could still haul.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!
nice nice, yeah I'm planning to do a flip kit in the rear, and then switch out the shocks but in the front I have to get drop shocks, because I'm going to switch out the springs and put lowering springs on mine, I'm trying to get a 3/5 outta mine.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!
Well I ended up getting some work done, well my buddy did it for me but since my truck didn't come with a Tach I went, and bought one so I finally have a Tach gauge, I'll try to get some pictures of it for you guys later in the week or something. Now its just time to start saving and start replacing very minor things, and maybe start kicking away at body work and start sanding down the truck.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!
Yeah and I still need to get my garage cleaned out so that I can just store the truck inside and then since it's starting to get cooler here in Texas just open the garage door get some fans and just hack at body work all day long, work on my days off got to love the fact that you have a 5 day job and then you have a project so you end up working 7 days because you tinker with your truck what a life lol but it's all about what the final product that keeps us all going.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!
Yeah its get frustrating and everything but hey it's part of it, and I also have to remember some of the best trucks out there weren't built overnight they took time and money, lots of money lol

Re: 1978 GMC Build!
Haha! You and me both or a generous amount of money would be donated that would be fine with me too. I think though yeah its a struggle to save and have to just look at a truck that has little things done to it, though there is HUGE plans for it, the way I see it is it'll make that final product so much more worth it, because you can drive it and enjoy it the way that it is before you have a totally different truck.
