Re: I'm going camping! 1966 GMC
Hope you get it coming home. Be careful...tires aren't cheap, but they would be the least of my concerns after loosing one or 2 on that big boy.

Re: I'm going camping! 1966 GMC
Oh well one day! We got our motorhome home today from Redding! The tires were beyond repair so 6 new tires and tubes from Leschwabs! $1295.00 ouch! Got the waterpump in with no problems. Bought a new airfilter and 2 bottles of coolant and went to start it. The fuelline from the pump to the carb was all dried out and cracked so back to autozone! Got about 30 miles down I5 and started seeing smoke and smelling antifreeze. Pulled over and found the radiator cap did not fit properly and was leaking out. Tightened it down and tied a rag around it and cruised at 55-60mph the rest of the 70miles home without a hickup! Not bad for a motorhome thats been sitting atleast 2 years! My wife is all excited now that she saw it drive down the road. I could see that look on her face when I pulled off to see why it was smoking! Now she's already talking about fixing the inside camper all up!

Re: I'm going camping! 1966 GMC
Looking GOOD, Tony! Looks like it has a "pass thru" from cab to camper. Another bonus!
Please be aware that those brakes WILL fade on you coming down off a pass or other mountain type terrain. They are attempting to stop a LOT of weight. I have 78 front disks and am in process of getting a newer rear end for the big brakes back there...hope to fire up my "new" 350 this weekend. |

Re: I'm going camping! 1966 GMC
Very cool. You should ahve a lot of fun fixing up the inside. My wife hasen't said that term since (polishing a turd) I finished wetsanding and spraying on quick wax. I think she may have bee a litle mad since I was working on the truck and not doing the yard work. Try and go with a vintage theme on the inside. Base it on what you and your wife like to do and I'm sure you will get all sorts of great comments at the campsites. That, for me, is a lot of fun.

Re: I'm going camping! 1966 GMC
I actually saw that on Craigslist about a week ago, the thought did cross my mind! I'm happy with my Argosy trailer though. About milage, I have a 61 305D with the 4 spd granny trans. I just bought the truck in Vallejo a month ago. Drove it down to Salinas at 55 mph and got 17 mpg. I don't understand everyone getting such poor milage. At any rate, you don't want to go rushing around with an rv. Slow down, enjoy the trip, THAT is your vacation.

Re: I'm going camping! 1966 GMC
Here is one local to me. It is not mine. Maybe the pictures could help you?
http://boise.craigslist.org/cto/3741147581.html 1966 Chevy 30 Motor Home - $2500 (TV) This 66 Chevy has only 37000 miles. Still has original owners manuals. Good rubber. Also manuals for appliances. This truck is in great shape. Origiinal High Torque 283 4 speed manual tranny Truck alone is worth the asking price Willing to negotiate a little. Thank for looking. |
