a friend of mine sent me this picture of my 63 c10 that i owned in 85.
first long bed i had ever owned, i've had one since.
ignore my 1 finger salute, this is the only picture of this truck i had

we had been camping at lake james for a week and got a flat coming home.

You have got some amazing skills. I love your statement about poverty being the mother of necessity. That is so true, and that is my motto as well. The magazines and the shows on TV just don't get it. They think that cars are built with a credit card, and not ingenuity. A true hotrodder uses his brain before he reaches for his wallet.

chevyrestoguy: thanks. while i did have some costly purchases, most of this truk is low buck.
mustII front, 700r4 trans, vintage ac and gm ramjet 350 crate motor cost more than the rest of the truk.
but i built this truk to drive and be reliable.

rude dude: the sway bar came with the 86 trans am rearend.
the ends centered on the frame, i heated them cherry red and bent them out and fabbed my own frame mounts.
it's worked for 5000 miles without a problem.

Ogre, if you were to do another steering column cover, would you use a mailing tube or a piece of PVC, and why? (I've seen you've tried both...)

never tried pvc, but i'd use cardboard again. easy to cut and glue while sitting in the truck. there are over 25 pieces in my steering column cover. the left side curves to match the dash, i pie cut the curve with a razor knife and hot glued them in. then there's more pieces to cover the dimmer and neutral safety switches. make sure you make attachment points. the top collar is mdf. i tried to find a picture of the back side, none available.

Wow. And you 'glassed it right in place after the dash was painted, using tape to keep from hurting anything. That's a work of art. I see the screw holes that attach to the steering column, but how is the big wing (on the door side) held in place?

My experience with glass...it doesn't like to stick to plastic without a super rough surface or holes in it. Cardboard, cloth, and wood really soak up the resin and become one. So I'd go the way Ogre did, too. Except my glass work would probably never look as good!

it's not a good pic, but if you look on top you will see my original dash fascia. a straight 3'' bent steel piece.
once i found fiberglassforums.com everything sort of snowballed from there.
cab was painted, i used many a roll of tape and carnuba wax to keep it from sticking to my fresh paint.
i had some welded clips on the bottom of the dash that i re-used for the glass work.
both left and right wings are held on with the clips, so is the passenger side

the pass side fascia is 4'' to cover up the va unit

What audio/video components did you settle on? Monitor? Speakers? Amps? Head unit? (I know you have the Kicker 10" Sub.) Best Buy has 6-1/2" Alpine component speakers on sale right now, but Amazon has them even cheaper @ ~$76. I wonder if this is the best bang for the buck. (Trying to hold the cost down but still be cool, as always...) I need to find an audio website to do my research. caraudio.com looks like a good one, but I'll need to subscribe to be able to do searches.

head unit is a JVC single din dvd, i bought dvd for the mega mp3 as in 4.7 gb of mp3's on a single disc.
3400 miles in 10 days on the 2011 hot rod power tour and we only had 1 dvd
the head unit also has a usb port, i just bought a 16 gb low profile flash drive to go in there.
i'll be able to drive coast to coast and back without listening to the same song.
i'm a hard rock, electric blues kind of guy. and loud

i only listen to mp3's, not a fan of sirius or broadcast radio commercials.
i do have an antenna under the pass step that works well, just never use it.

my speakers and amps are arc audio.
speakers are component 4.5'' w/1.5'' tweeters, i have 4 sets in the kicks and doors.
4x400 amp arc audio speaker amp.
10'' arc audio sub w/ arc audio 1x600 amp.
and i believe 10,000 ft of speaker wire (approximately )

the monitor is just a cheap ebay headrest monitor, i tested it and know it works, but have never used it.
i wouldn't put one in if i did another console.

cheap speakers are hard on the ears, you get what you pay for...
there are some nice all-in-one amps, it was tough getting 2 amps behind my seat.
that said... i paid $0 for my speakers, sub and amps
all take outs from a sema project that rockford fosgate wanted to sponsor

I am looking at dooing a similar cut down on some tahoe seats. Yours look awesome! would you happen to have a picture of the seats through the back window? i really want to keep them as low as possible as i think even the stock seat rides to high and looks ugly. Your truck is a Very nice truck and has some well thought out mods!
