So I found a project got to much for me right now add on CL. Printed it out and ended up losing the printout for a while. While cleaning my garage I found it. Searched online and couldn't find any evidence of a repost. So I called the guy to see if he possibly still had it. He did, the whole project burb with roof rack. Told him I was only really interested in the rack and ask if he would part with it separately. He said sure and I made him an offer. 150$ was the agreed price, he emailed me a few more pictures and I asked when we could meet. Well he was moving in two weeks. I wouldn't be anywhere near his area for two weeks either. So I told him when I could be there and of course it was the day before he was leaving. So I let him know my interest and kept calling Avery few days to back it up. The morning before I called him told him I had the next day free and when I should be there. He gave me his address and cell phone and said to call once I take the exit off the freeway so I can meet him at the shop. So the next day I load up the flatbed and head his way. Was doing great on time only took me two hours instead of the estimated two and a half to get to him. Called him once I get the exit and grabbed some food and what's he say? I sold the whole project last night, and hung up in me. That was it. I was not only pissed but devastated none the less. Really pissed me off but that's life I guess.

Re: Craigslist Vent...

Usually when I list an item I say that the first person here with cash can get it

Otherwise first to call or email has the first chance. If they flake or can't make it I contact the other person

Then you have those crazy people that want to trade you phones or radios or that junk for something

I make sure to outline the details of the sale beforehand in the add.

Re: Craigslist Vent...

I've found they will try to trick you this way too!

I've got some buick 5 on 5
guy calls says he will be over next day 4 pm,never shows up
i'm working on the truck,in the laneway,rims in view,waiting
phone rings, another guy says he's looking for the centers "only"
would i take less then half, for them,i say ok but bring another $$ for the rims
he says he dosn't really want the rims, just the centers,
said the pic i posted shows the rims are rusty ,but he's be right over in 5 min

I said sorry i've sold them to a guy he said he's coming later....(he never showed)
guy calls back, said half the price......sorry i sold them (not really)
now a month later.....friday the call
sat 10 am no show.....i think he's trying again
I think he drove by,prob watched me a while,thought i'd go for it.....NOT

not mint but still worth it.

Re: Craigslist Vent...

recently I have started to at least try to qualify some of the responders on cl and have started meeting some close by at a good time for both.. if they buy the sale is over and I return home. Keep in mind you might get a no show from time to time. I have had good luck for the most part both buying and selling. just like ebay it just is what it is.

Re: Craigslist Vent...

Phone or e-mail? both suck, chances for junk mail goes up and junk text.
Oh well.

Have a guy who wants to meet halfway (200 mile trip) for a $50 dashboard
(non chevy) right! good luck with that!

Thumbs down Re: Craigslist Vent...

i thought fedx, ups or usps did that and it may be cheaper than the drive. even worse what if they didn't show up. had that happen a couple times local. chances are i would not drive more than a few miles for a $50.00 sale. that's just me and there may be exceptions.

Re: Craigslist Vent...

I sold a bicycle once. I agreed to meet the guy 1/2 way. His son liked the bike & he said "since you traveled to meet me here I won't try to dicker you down on the price" I just said good thing & walked back to my truck.

Re: Craigslist Vent...

I've been trying to get in touch with this guy for a few weeks now.

Number is bunk and he doesn't return emails. WTF? Guess I'm going someplace else.

Screw that halfway jive. You lose a lot of leverage as a seller. The buyer knows you don't want to waste a trip as much as they don't want to waste one either. Turns into a battle of wills.

Ain't nobody got time for that!
