Re: 1985 chevy lift kits

Just wondering but the best quote I got for the installation was 550. How fair does that seem to everyone considering all the hardware they are installing? They said if everything goes smoothly I might get my truck back this evening. Im really anxious haha.

X2!!!! You can't beat those guys. They're rear shackle flip is the way to go IMO. It also gives you a better pinion angle. I'm sitting at 5" of lift with 1 degree rear pinion angle.

Re: 1985 chevy lift kits

That's probably in the ballpark, installing the new lift would go easy but pulling out the old springs might give some trouble.I have installed the lifts in my last 3-4 trucks myself so can't give you an exact price.I work slow & get distracted easy!!

Re: 1985 chevy lift kits

So good news lift is done bad news is they are telling me I will need new drive shafts... I dont understand why the lady at ord said I would not need new drive shafts if I really do. Also people on forum said 4 inch lift would not require it either so im really lost....

Re: 1985 chevy lift kits

I can't see how you would need a new drive shaft, front or rear with 4" lift.I have had 4 trucks over the last 20 years with 4" lift & never changed front or rear shafts. My 82 has a 6" lift and I didn't change the shaft, done a bit of grinding the ears on the front but it's ok now. This shop might just be trying to squeeze more money out of you.

Re: 1985 chevy lift kits

still should'nt need it. my blazer wheelbase is pretty much the same, & i didn't touch the shafts. there should be enough room on your slip yoke. not the best comparison, but my crew with a 8" lift required only lowering the steady bearing (2 piece shaft) on the rear shaft, & clearancing the stops & a longer slip yoke on the front. hope it's not one of those shops that pull you in with a good price, then start finding things "wrong". if by somehow your shafts are short, all you need are longer slip yokes, not whole driveshafts. did the shop mean new shafts as in to short or new shafts as in yours are wore out?

Re: 1985 chevy lift kits

Ill tell the guy what was said tonight on the forum and see what they have to say... if I have to pay 50 bucks and get my truck towed back to my home I will. It would be a shame for him to try and take advantage of me because I told the guy I have a lot of projects for him .. so he'd be losing out.

This is a really simple install. For the price of getting it done, you can buy the tools and do it yourself and keep the tools.

Re: 1985 chevy lift kits

Ok so everything is back together and the truck is looking sharp.... few things that bothered me was that the guy said rear drive shaft is fine front one he said is probably going to get ripped off once I use the 4 wheel drive he said its to short. So he referred me to a guy who lengthens drive shafts. Also I noticed the steering wheel is upside down. They told me after I get the front end alignment that will fix the steering wheel. Also the turning radius to the right is nice and sharp but I barely have any turning radius to the left they also told me that this is something the front end alignment people will fix... and lastly when I lay into the gas I can now feel some vibration coming from the rear drive shaft. So let me know guys is what they telling me true about the steering radius? Ill upload a video of the truck this week to show everyone

Re: 1985 chevy lift kits

Did you get a raised steering arm? Or dropped pitman arm?? Either of those are required to correct steering after a lift. wheel should come back once it's aligned. As for a vibe, needs to be shimmed on the rear, probly needs to go up a degree or two...
