Sounds like you took the right method and take a step back.

I agree on driving them regularly is the way to keep them running good. I truly believe that’s the biggest reason people have so many problems with boats. They hardly get used. When I had mine the summers I used it the most the fewer problems I had.

I try to make a point to drive my ‘72 at least once a week , if not more.

If I see rain predicted for the next day, I will take the truck out, even if it is just around the block.

When I replaced the manifold gasket on my ‘67, a mechanic friend told me that I should be good for a few months. I didn’t like hearing that, but after stewing on it a few days I realized he was being honest...a 50 year old truck is gonna present the owner, over time, with problems that are age related...so I realized that every day that I drive the truck without any issues is a good thing - and when a new problem crops up (like the fuel pump suddenly developing a leak ) I get to fix it!
