Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
Hey 67mater, when you swapped to the lockouts, did you just have to change the internals or the whole snout? Does the warn setup fit right into the full-time snout?

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
That manual hubs are super easy to install. They go right in where the full time gear was. Remove cover, two snap rings, gear and spring and then install warn hub, new snap ring and screw the cap on. I still have the original 67 Rockwell part time case so these were all I needed.

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
thanks for the info. I have a set of original 3/4 turn (blue) warn hubs on my donor truck, and the full time hubs on my 70. I plan on swapping them soon. I have the 203 case - but its been converted. I'm keeping my eyes open for a cheap 205 though...

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
Thanks for the offer, but I don't see myself making the 5+ hour (each way) drive anytime soon. If I find one real cheap, and local, just wanting to come home with me, I'd probably bring it home and put it near a corner (the corners are full) of my shop where it would wait until I need it for this or another project. I'll probably kick this 203 around until (IF) it breaks... I don't plan on using the my 70 a whole lot... I have a 98 RAM parts getter, a couple 4 cyl cars for drivers, and a 77 dodge 3/4ton 4x4 with a 440 that I use to pull a trailer and haul wood. The 70 is a hobby... It may replace some of the 77 dodge's duties depending on how dependable and stout it turns out to be...

Nice work so far. Just wondering where you got the patch for the corner of the cab where the cowl and fender bolt. I noticed the keyparts sticker but could not find the part. Thanks.

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
Those were scraps from other pieces. Don't Think anyone makes that yet. Its an area that will never he seen so I just cut out that bad and shaped the pieces so the fender and cowl fit tightly

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
Ok guys, lots of things changing here. I found and accepted a new job in Chicago (downer's Grove). I just had my first week and things going great. Spent last two weeks painting my old house before it got cold. I did get my new driver's door finished and installed, so the truck is FINALLY all black. I also nearly finished my friend's cab, including the below gas hole fill. I also assembled my nova and got it moved to the new place in Chicago (my parents are still trying to sell their house in Elgin, so I'm renting it, which means 3 stall garage!!). At this point the truck will remain unchanged at least until the nova is driveable. I would consider selling the truck if someone was interested, but if I have it when the nova is done, it''ll probably get blown back apart, painted right, auto trans/overdrive/np205 swapped, and maybe EFI. Anyways, here's some pics!

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
Need some help here. I've sold my nova, which sucks but it's ready for paint and thats a big chunk of change that I couldnt justify. So, I am back to the truck but lacking ALL motivation to either sell, or make changes to it. Now that I'm in chicago, i need an automatic with overdrive, AC and more like a stock lift if I want to drive it. I have a 700r4 and a divorced np205, which would be nice. I'll also have a rebuild '03 5.3 EFI motor and harness from the nova project that could make him fuel injected. AC then wouldnt be a crazy change, and a stock suspension could be sourced, and I already have some 16" wheals with 31" tires.
However, that's some people's WHOLE project, and I already built this one once as a big bad 4x4. So, do I cut bait and sell for what I can, or do I sink even more money and time (which is the biggest hurdle) into essentially a complete change over. I guess I know exactly what I'm dealing with on my truck, but for all the changes, I could sell him for what he is, and buy another near dead truck and build it. HELP!!

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
I suppose too there may be people out there with projects that would trade fior a running driving truck, no?

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
well, I still don't know whats gonna happen, but I did pick up some parts to go back to stock height. also sold the 35s, some buckets seats I had for the nova, and took 800 pounds of parts to scrap...

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
It is tough when your life changes and the outlook on the project changes. Mine has done several times on my 70 and she still lies there. At least you can use yours while you think about it. I am driving an 83 at the moment and stealing from the 70 to keep it running, so that gives the run down feeling about the 70 too. Hang in there. Enjoy what you can of the truck while you get settled in the new area.

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
Good luck with your truck. Only thing I could suggst is to either get another driver, or buy the parts to make your truck the way you want it. Not much help, I know.

Re: 67/72 K20 Rusty build
The big question is what time I'm going to have. Baby in january, and have an offer in on a house. I think I'm going to keep the truck and just work on it when I can. I've sold everything else (nova, and every other garage related distraction). So let me start my wish list;
700r4 and divorced np205 (have big parts including auto column) need rebuild and little things like tv cable, shift linkage, new driveshafts, and likely custom mounts stock suspension (gotta fit in parking deck to be a daily driver candidate). just picked up front leaves/mounts with sway bar and stock drag link. need 3/4 ton rear leaves, stock length shocks, and some new tires (sold the 35"s). The other big wish all along was the 67 chevyu front end, which I already made happen (and he looks sweet everytime I open the garage to go in the house; makes parking outside a lot easier!). So that's one of the big three done already. I think too the suspension swap will pay for itself (minus tires) as I can sell all my lift parts for more than stock parts cost. I need new master, booster, front calipers, and because I dont' like how I did them to start, probably rerouted brake lines. There are exhaust leaks, the bed needs rhino lined, the carpet needs put it, blah blah blah. i think because it's getting cold I'm going to leave him as is (drivable) until I have a new house. Once relocated though, I'll probably start taking him apart........again....... oh yeah, and my new DD/parts hauler:
