Re: Project '86

Little update....

My install kit showed up this weekend so I got starte on it. Had to recess the striker a bit to get everything to work right and in the process I cut out an unecessarily large hole.

Went from this

To this

Still have plenty to do but it's a start. I am going to add another piece to the top so that it flows back in like the bottom does. The transition from the striker plate to the bottom piece I added looks a little odd because it goes from a square edge to a rounded edge so that is something I have to work out as well.

Re: Project '86

I added the piece on the top and kept the edge square. Not quite sure which way I like better though.

Re: Project '86

The rear of the fender is unfinished of course but since you can see it now I had to do something about it.

Made a filler to take care of most of the gap

Then made several more and got them all tacked up

Re: Project '86

Wow, really impressed with your work/progress!! What a treat to see!

Question. With the front fender opening lowered along with the fender itself...at ride height, will you have lock to lock steering, or will the fender modifications limit the amount you can turn the wheels?

Re: Project '86

I get enough lift to clear the tires so turning shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Project '86

Looks cool, and I really like what you did with the front fenders.

Why does it seem like your front tires are more vertical (not leaning in at the top) than most bagged trucks when it's laid out?

Paint or primer? looks good either way. What color interior are you going with?

Primer. I wanted to get it all one color because I am taking it to Texas Showdown. The current plan for interior is a tan leather with something lighter like a sandstone color as contrast.

Re: Project '86

I was thinking tan or even the factory saddle color would look great. Sounds like we're on the same wavelength. Nice work!!

Dang, that looks sweet.

Did you ever get around to doing your steering? Still curious if you had to do anything after the Z

Ha! Thanks. Posted that way back in a thread on here somewhere.

If you don't mind, take some pics when you get it back together.
