Re: 65 3/4 ton 4x4 buildup

Kick ass build man! I've got a '63 I wanna build bout like that. I have alot of questions but my first is how much did that wiring harness run ya? My pickup has been sittin for a while and I'm sure I'll have to replace the harness and whatnot. I wanna redo the interior (seats, gauges, dash, radio, and all that stuff) first, then work on the body and everything else once I get that the way I want it. Any info would be great, thanks.

Thanks. Check out post #9, I think the harness was about $50 from the junk yard.

My wife and I have been driving the truck daily now. The heater core started to leak so I bought a new one from Kragen/Orilleys, also put some douglas fur ($29 from the lumber yard + screws) down in the bed so the dogs can ride with us. Mounted the fuel filler too, used a Jeep Wagoneer neck which goes inside the fender and back to the tank.

I've got a 63 Chevy I'm building and I wanna raise it some. My buddy has some 33" All-Terrains he's selling, you think they'd fit on my pickup as is (no lift just stock height) or would I have to put a lift on it?

Sorry, I could not tell you, having never owned a stock mid 60s factory 4x4 pickup.

Re: 65 3/4 ton 4x4 buildup

Truck has been running great. Had to adjust the camber shim on the passenger front and a CV rear driveshaft was needed to cut down on vibrations.

Finished the interior a while back but never updated the thread.

Re: 65 3/4 ton 4x4 buildup

Replaced ball joints recently and put on some new tires. Those wide wheels are taking out the lower joints quickly. Retreads are from Tread Wright.com.

It has been real reliable and my daily driver. My wife is driving our 05 Chevy Crew cab now...no room for two kiddos in the 65

Re: 65 3/4 ton 4x4 buildup

First off that douglas fir bed looks sweet!
Is that wood finish cut, or rough cut? It looks almost rough cut in one photo, and I like the idea of that!

I cannot imagine that big back window cab sitting around cluttering up your yard for very long !

Your under dash console is almost identical to mine, and that is nearly amazing.... a question about that though, do you ever kick that speaker with it down that low?
I wanted to mount the 6x9 down there, but didnt because I was afraid I would always be kicking it.

I am currently working on my under dash extension with integrated console, so there are not any photos updated recently on my build thread. I started it back in May though and there are photos back then that are in my thread.

Re: 65 3/4 ton 4x4 buildup

It is rough cut lumber and holding up quite well. No, I have not kicked my speakers but that was a concern of mine too. That big window cab would not sell so I sold the whole truck to a scrapper for $100. Sad to see it go to the recycler....

Re: 65 3/4 ton 4x4 buildup

Still lookin good!

Its not so much the wide wheels taking out the ball joints as it is just the extreme offset those wheels have. It will wear on your bearings pretty good too, i'd try to find a set with something closer to a 5" offset to the inside. What size wheel and tire is that, those tires look pretty good!

Love the build, truck look great! I'd like to know how the Tread Wrights hold up, I've almost pulled the trigger on a set of those several times, but always chicken out.
