Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
My buddy was nice enough to bring over his welder to help me out. Obviously the worst looking welds are the ones that I did.... ha.

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
I've gotta go get some more steel this week to finish it up. I also bought some 2x2 to start on raising my bed floor.

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
how do you resolve the issue of the motor mounts now being 2 inches higher than the trans mount? Does that make sense?

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
A 3" Z will get you about where the dropmember is. I chose to only do 2.5". I did the z because I didnt want to spend the money on the dropmember, plus, I had an aftermarket swaybar, all brand new suspension components, ect...
I have friends that do this stuff for a living and enough common sense to do my research on the proper ways to achieve this, so I wasnt scared of the time spent to do it right. Its obviously not done yet, I'll have it wrapped up in a few weeks. Ok, Heres some issues I have to deal with. -I will have to come up with a two piece steering shaft because it will probably hit the upper a-arm. -I have to come up with a custom swaybar mount with the completion of the braces on the front z. (porterbuilt has a swaybar to buy with their kit) - I have a porterbuilt tranny crossmember coming, so I can raise my transmission as well. - I have to come up with a custom radiator mount from the core support so I can try to keep my factory fan shrouds.(this would also be an issue with the dropmember) The only real advantages of the dropmember, is the weight savings and steering response is a bit better with the rack and pinion, but lets be honest, its the best product out there for these trucks. I just didn't want to spend the money. I hope that answers your questions. |

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
I may add one more thing. If I get hit in the front end, my bumper is now only for looks, the thing will be destroyed. That may be another advantage of the dropmember.

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Thanks for the response.
If im picturing this right, your trans crossmember is now going to mount the tranny 3" higher to accomidate the "z". If so, will you have to modify the floor of your cab as well for clearance issues on the tranny? Your doing great work man. keep it up! |

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
From talking to nate at porterbuilt, he says no. I'm thinking maybe, cause I think I've seen some builds that have had to. But porterbuilt should
Know better because they've done so many of these things. Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by mcboomport; 05-23-2011 at 09:29 PM. |

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Another thing I forgot to mention, The dropmember moves your front wheels centered in your wheel wells and narrows your track so you can run different offset/ width wheels.

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Got the framing welded in for the bed floor. I am raising it 7-3/4" so the fenderwells sit flush with the bedsides. I hope you guys aren't to sick of seeing this frame, I know i am, but I have a lot more to come... raised notch. Lower frame rails sectioned 2 inches....
