Vintage air in the 73-87 trucks questions

Are there any discounts on this Gen IV unit floating about the internet? It doesn't hurt to save wherever you can. Thank you for posting pics and info gents. This thread has been extemely helpful.

on the sidebar on the right, there are various links including two links for 73-80. One with factory air, one without. When you select the appropriate link, it will take you to a page to select options for the new Gen IV kit for 73-80 models.

I ordered my kit from them on Monday and it arrived yesterday (friday).

I am pretty sure list for the kit is around $1300. The website says to compare it at 10% off, that looks about right.

Thanks for the props. My truck was originally A/C equipped. The holes are bigger in the firewall for the A/C trucks.

Yes, you will still need heater hoses. Not sure about a polished condensor, as that is hidden. Pretty sure you can get a polished compressor, though.

so is this new Eletrical opprated system Climate Control or is it just you regular plain A/C?

i have a complete climate control unit very small size fits right up under the dash, Im wanting to adabt to my crew cab but if i can get it all ready to plug and play i dont want to bother even trying

Out of the many members ordering the Gen IV system, how many of you are installing it yourselves? If you have already installed this system on your truck, how difficult was the installation?

I didn't install my kit, but I did look at the instructions for the other Gen IV kits. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, I don't think it will be too bad.

Sorry, guys. I really dropped the ball on the photos. I took a lot, but haven't had the time to crop/resize/upload them to my website.

My shop got broken into for the second time shortly after I took the photos, less than a week before I was supposed to go on vacation. All of my time since then has been spent fixing the stuff the bastards broke (they brought a circular saw and cut through a wooden door), putting in better locks, and installing a bunch of security lights.

I'm back from vacation, and still working on it. I'm not going to make any more promises regarding the photos...

Fair enough, sounds like a good reason for not posting them.

Seriously though, maybe a cheap cctv camera type system should be installed too. If it's that big of a problem at least that would increase your odds of catching them.

It does blow out all of the factory vents (locations). It blows really cold, too. I drove it to work this morning to get a state inspection, so I will get a pic of the box under the dash. It really doesn't look much different than the stock one, until you look underneath. The box is a little bigger, but the kit comes with a part to take out a little of the inside of the glove box.

I have a guy helping me on the truck. I've been swamped with work, even though I work at home. Pete is in the Air Force and when he gets off there, stops by the house to work on the truck. He's been helping out for about two months now on various aspects of the truck.

He already has it installed. Said it was pretty straight forward, good instructions. I need to make time to take it down and get the two hoses crimped, vac'd and charged.

you have to crimp the hoses?...they are cut to length and ready to bolt on?

One end of both hoses are already crimped. The ends that connect to the compressor are "cut to fit" and will have to be crimped. It's not a big deal, any shop that does AC work will have the crimpers and at worst, be a nominal fee.

I plan to take it to a shop to have it evac'd and charged anyway.

check with your local NAPA auto parts or other parts store. Both the local ones to me can do the work.

Could someone please take a measurement for me? I would like to know how far it is from the front of the rear mounting tabs on the compressor to the rear of the compressor. Thanks.
