trying to figure out why rear tire is rubbing front edge of bed on drivers side, im pretty sure rear gets pushed to right when lowered, discovered trailing arm bent upwards.

I found out the lower you go the farther the axle arcs forward. Now I got PorterBuilt trailing arms to correct that.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

I am getting ready to install a HEI distributor so I swapped out my OEM alternator and regulator for a 63amp 10SI internally regulated alternator (AC Delco 3342114). I chose the 10SI because it looks almost identical to the OEM unit. I considered swapping the pulley and fan from the original alternator to the new one but didn't to avoid damage. I had to machine the bottom mount on the case of the new alternator to make the pulleys line up as well as re-bend the upper bracket. This is well documented by Sharps40 in the John Lee Alternator thread.

One surprise in the process is that I was able to re-use the original wiring harness wrap tape after removing the unused wires related to the external regulator. I am very happy that the wiring looks harness looks untouched after a couple of re-wraps to get things right.

...ned.

Picked up a factory stereo for free the other night. Dunno if it works but I plan on sending it in for a conversion to new tech in the future.

Have you used new tech before? I have an oem radio for my 63 that I'd like to have converted. Just wondering about cost.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Today was the busiest day that I have had. Installed a 2.5 drop and disk brakes on the front, lowered the back about 2-3 inches and installed new water pump and brake lights. Will try to upload the pics tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Shot the last two coats of paint on the interior of the '65 C10 project this morning, and unwrapped the cab this afternoon. After all the time and effort, it sure is nice seeing the ideas become reality. It will get a repro black firewall insulation pad and a black vinyl full floor covering.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

My son Ray and I framed out the sills then pulled the bed to set it up on stands so we could install the bed wood, tubs, etc.

Figured out some filler panels for the wheel tubs since we raised the floor 3" we had a gap to close with the bed sides.

The chunk of scrap wood is a piece of the old yellow pine we started with to make these boards.

Thanks derail!

I made up a frame using angle iron that takes up the difference in height since the rear sill stayed put when the floor came up 3".

Gives me solid mounting for the strips, boards, and end piece.

Lightbulb Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Friday I finally put the first set of new tires on my truck that it's had in more than 20 years! Hankook Optimo (235/75/15) from Wal-Mart--$75 each. I even replaced the spare.

Saturday, I entered it in the Southeastern Truck Nationals show that they've been talking about here, and won this really cool trophy for "best shop truck."

Then, on my way home from the show, I lost one of my hubcaps, so the search is on.

I'll have to go home and measure. It's the normal half-ton style that goes all the way out to the edge, so whatever that is. If you have an extra chrome one, I'd definitely like to buy it from you. I sure hate that I lost it, but I guess that's the way it goes sometimes.

Thanks!
