Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Well, passed two of the tests so far.
Today while studying I heard a rather loud "THUMP" so when went to look it was a parcel from friend Steve in Arkansas. Cool plates for my collection.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Been a long time since seeing those water transfer stickers...
Did a small bit of research… 1966 Truck tags were orange with black letters and regular car tags were white with red letters...

I've bought similar things for guitars (fenders and the like) They call them water slide decals, you basically soak them in water and then slide the sticker onto whichever surface its going on

As a kid I realised that the water transfers from model airplanes sat well on drinking glasses, so decorated myself a glass. They are really cool retro things.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Right..... Hope I do not regret giving these away later if I end up needing them.
I have some 60-66 parts, all good for donor sections to other trucks. There is rust, holes , bodges etc. THEY WERE TAKEN FROM A 1965 C10 NO.... I did not cut the hole in it. PLEASE NOTE: These parts are for Collection only, I really do not have time to sit about and wait for couriers. Please PM your interest. If they do not go, they will stay on top of the wood shed behind the garage, to be used later.

Dont need a donation. Help someone else somewhere along the way, its worth a lot more than cash. You can collect it when you get your propshsft and lights on your way back from France.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Yesterday morning Paul Y popped over to collect some random stuff I had put out for him, chunk of railway line for an anvil, some large plastic boxes previously collected from the London Chest Hospital, and also the front bumper off my truck that will hopefully make its way onto his truck "Woody"
Some of you may remember the Chevy steering column I bought at Wheels day, it was missing a plastic cover. Paul brought me half a Camaro column he had butchered for his old car. It has the cover, and may even yield more bits for my steering conversion when I get to it. Bit by bit the parts for my truck are coming together. Just need to get through the next few weeks at the new job, school this week, to follow up on the home study of the last two weeks, more tests and practical exams.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Mad as it seems to some, there are certain jobs that need to be done for various reasons, including making space.
Nicola, her dad, brothers etc were all born in the same village Hoo St Werburgh. Recently she found out that the local Parish Church had borer beetle/woodworm and the whole wooden floor was being removed and all the pews sold off. They are claimed to be over 150 years old. She opted to buy a pew, except when I fetched it, they were about 9 foot long. So I made an executive decision and returned the long bench and managed to buy for the same money a broken 6 foot one, also infested with woodworm, but more useable to us. The church. A bit of history. St. Werburgh was the daughter of King Wulfhere of Mercia, and niece of King Ćthelred, his brother and successor. She was born between 640 and 650. The first church of Hoo St Werburgh may have been built in the reign of the 8th century King Ćthelbald of Mercia, though presumably a monastery existed nearby at an earlier time.[3] This, together with land at Hoo All Hallows, is likely to have been placed under the rule of the leading Mercian monastery of Medeshamstede, now known as Peterborough.[4] A significant, and possibly unique, feature of this ancient parish church are the two Royal hatchments of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I. Recently these have been restored and can be viewed in the church. The Reverend Ferdinando Booth of the same family as Archbishop Lawrence Booth was Vicar here from 1675-1680. The parish records of 1851 gave the population as 1,065. As bought. Note the marks on the sides where "repairs" had been attempted, seemingly with a large hammer. Unfortunately the repairs I planned were going to be functional, rather than restorative. I had to fill the holes where screws and nails previously resided as they were oversized. Used large, deep reaching screws, and will make plugs from some vintage wood to cover the holes behind the screw heads. I also suggested removing the central leg as it was nailed into place, with one nail and served little purpose. Not one to throw it on the fire wood pile, Nicola made me turn it into a candle holder. I made her come to the wood shed and do it herself. Originally the plan was just repair and use, but it turned into a bit more, as the woodworm poison instructions suggested cleaning varnish off to get better penetration. Sanded, ready for poison application. Poison applied, drying out. Next step will be a few coats of penetrating emulsified wood oil. And so ended my Saturday. Sunday was rain, so no bootfairs and we went to Whitstable for a walk about, visiting her brother and awesome fish and chips lunch.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
All I can say is that it is Friday afternoon and I am shattered.
Just back from one of the toughest weeks I had in 20 years. But..... I passed all tests/exams and both practical validations this week. Off to Copenhagen for work on Monday morning early. Very pleased and thankful that I was given this job, even though it is always going to be tough.

Compliments on passing your exams and becoming certified. The job may get easier with time and familiarity. At least it's nice having employment when that can be a challenge to obtain when the economy is having difficulty.
The pew is going to be a nice addition!

Thank you for the reply. You are right about the job getting easier, I have done this job for the last 24 years and love what I do. Even though I was doing well at my last job, and could have carried on there indefinitely (my boss and his bos actually told me the door was open if I wanted to return) I also knew the last four years never stretched me, and just cruising was not good for my mind. I feel very honoured to have been seen as worthy to be offered this job, especially looking the calibre of people who were in my class from Denmark, Germany and the UK. I look up to every one of them, and it seems they were doing the same to me The stretch in the new job is what appeals to me. Quote:

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
My coolest "retro-tat" addition for the truck yet, arrived this week.
If you do not "get it" with this one, don't worry. Can't wait to get my truck back to the point where I can fit it to the drivers quarter window. Funny how the little details can sometimes excite us the most.

Suspect Denmark will be very clinical and clean mate. If I do see anything interesting, I will report. Had to go to the Post Office this morning to pick up a parcel as it could not be delivered through the letter slot in the front door. Posted in Kansas........ Thanks Jeff Scheu !! Another random act of kindness. The world rocks !! Some cool Kansas plates, designs, none of which I have. And a pair of super cool T-Shrts for Nicola and I. This from a guy I never met, but who enjoys my Garage Journal thread updates. Again makes me feel both humble and human.
