Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

I've got a friend who decided to ride it out in Houston. She said she was told to stay there so that people from Galveston could drive down the freeway. I was on Facebook and she messaged me saying "COME GET ME!" lol. She's afraid because they have several tall pine trees/instant battering rams around their house

I told her I'd be praying for her.

I hope everyone here checks in when they can.

I have no idea how much of this we are gonna get but we've withstood 115 mph winds before. I ain't worried about damage, I'm more worried about electricity going out. Last big storm with 85 mph winds took 4 days to restore it. I can live without A/C but sitting around having my 82 year old dad silently staring at me for 4 days with no TV was quite painful. I'm sure he blamed me for the whole ordeal lol.

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!

Winds starting to pick up here. Lots of rain now. We just had a 2-11restaurant fire downtown hit and our engine just went out on an apartment fire. They just came back from trees on fire (transformer set them off). It's going to be a long night!

Be safe everyone in and around Galveston! On another note, came across a neat site for tracking hurricanes:

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

It's 4:21 am. My Friend in Conroe just Text messaged me and asked me

"r u praying?"

That kinda freaked me out a bit.

I told her I was.

She texted back and said
"Coming prety strong for an hour. I am in hallway journalling, no power. Song in my head is God with us, sing it with me."

That got to me.

My phone rang and it was her but she didn't speak and it went dead. That REALLY got to me, but then I thought, It's a miracle anything is getting through at all.

If it's been going on an hour then they should be just about done with it. I'm hoping so anyway...

6am: She texted again.. said they just lost a huge oak tree. It uprooted and went into the street, didn't hit anything else.

On another note. A reporter for NBC was on air and kept getting blown over a small hedge. he'd struggle to get up and get blown over again.. it was pretty funny.

Glad you made it through, if you need any help with the cleanup or anything else let me know, I also have a welding rig I can drag up that way.

I'm doing good. Lots of limbs and trees down but most of the houses around here are OK. Went out during the eye and looked around a little. It's blowing like crazy again now so we'll see how it works out. W lost power at 3:00 so I'm running on the generator now. Hope everyone else is OK!

Still more rain and wind to come but I think the worst of it has passed. Now comes the long wait for power to be restored

We had a leaf blow across the lawn.. It was terrifying! It all stayed east of Dallas. I made the 4 block trip to 7-11 to buy a bag of ice for nothing.
