Note – these are a direct interchange with the original vintage handles, but they are not exact duplicates. Vintage handle housings have a clip and two screws over the wire where it leaves the housing. The later design has a smooth raised ridge in this area. It’s actually cleaner and neater, but not authentic if that matters. Also the newer parts come with Phillips head screws where the originals were slotted. Early and late screws are the same thread size so they can be interchanged. http://unityusa.3dcartstores.com/675...bly_p_615.html http://unityusa.3dcartstores.com/838...Kit_p_552.html I don’t know the difference between these last two bare handle housings: http://unityusa.3dcartstores.com/831...ing_p_507.html http://unityusa.3dcartstores.com/600...ing_p_506.html I have dealt with Unity directly and they were very friendly, helpful, and supportive. But after pricing the parts and before placing an online order, you might want to check with Accesoryland. It’s a mom and pop shop so he’s a little slow to respond, but very helpful and knowledgeable. He has a large inventory of obsolete parts, and also has direct access to the Unity factory inventory. Re: show your67 72 chevy spot light trucks
For vintage 6” round applications there were two types of sealed beam bulbs offered. The original standard sealed beam and a newer halogen version. Here are the part numbers and characteristics of each:
Standard - 4435 clear spotlight, 35 watts, 75,000 candlepower, with 100 hours of lamp life. This bulb can be easily distinguished by the dark dome over the bulb filament inside the sealed beam, as seen here: Halogen - GE H7635 Clear Halogen Lamp, 50 watts, 160,000 candle power, 100 hrs lamp life. And yes the Halogen bulb is considerably brighter. This came standard on most spotlights produced in the 70’s and 80’s. that no longer had the screw-on crest/emblem on top. The crest was replaced with a lackluster riveted plate. The halogen bulb is readily identifiable by the lack of a dome over the lighting filament as seen here: Both bulbs are the same physical size and interchangeable. Quote:
For anyone interested here are links to the applicable vehicle codes in those two states, pertaining to owning and using vehicle mounted spotlights: California: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc24404.htm Washington: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.180 |

Re: show your67 72 chevy spot light trucks
The split collar on the left goes on first, and fits flush against the headpost housing inside the outer body bracket. The split should line up with the split under the adjusting screw.
After the shaft is inserted into the body, there is normally a tapered rubber washer slid over the shaft to act as a seal against the inside of the post. A typical item can be seen in this photo. If you don't have one a perfect replica can be created by slicing up a piece of fuel tubing: The ring with the small hook goes on next, if your application requires one to support the wire after it leaves the handle. The long L bracket is for industrial applications where extra support is desired inside. I’ve never used one personally. Finally the chrome collar with the set screw goes on to lock the inside of the shaft tight in the body. The handle assembly goes on last, and the wedge and screw hold it in place. Some outer tubes have a flat spot for the wedge providing a fixed orientation between the handle and the lamp head. Later models have no flat and a different shaped wedge, which can be tightened in any position. Last edited by markeb01; 12-20-2010 at 04:35 PM. |

Re: show your67 72 chevy spot light trucks
Yes, although it appears you have not yet installed the outer tube which is a slip fit into the head housing and the collar snugs up to it. When mounted, the split collar seats completely in the outer body bracket.

Re: show your67 72 chevy spot light trucks
Here are a few pics showing a *correction* I believe this is a 1955-1959 Chevy truck outer mounting bracket with and without the collar, and with the outer tube installed:
