Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

Cort, are they the #035 also, or a different number? I was just wondering if maybe the water pump was part #35 to go on the engine, or something along those lines.

What kind of mirror was in your truck and your burb? Is it like the one in mine, or the 3 hole one?

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

I want to say it is 039 but maybe it was 035. I don't have my truck here to go look unfortunately. Both my engines were 305A's.

Also, my truck had the three hole mirror and my suburban has this one:

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

You meant the inside mirror didn't you? It was a three hole one in my truck and the suburan didn't have one at all. It didn't even have holes in the roof for one, but I took the one out of my truck and installed it.

LOL That is quite a crazy looking side mirror. Thanks for the input!

I really like your truck. Wish I had one like it up here in Alaska. I would keep the stepside style bed. Keep up the work and keep us updated.

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

Thanks C@rnut001!! The 4wd would be handy up there! How far are you from North Pole? I have a friend that is a nurse there.

With the divorce pending, I haven't been doing much on the truck. She wants my truck in the divorce. She knows it is rare, and thinks it is worth a bunch. She is not taking into account that it needs A LOT of work to make it worth anything. So I am kind of waiting to see what the fallout is, and just messing with it a little here and there for now.

We did take apart the heater core, and cleaned it all out, but other than that, not much!

What truck(s) do you have?

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

I am in rural southwestern Alaska, quite a ways from Fairbanks and North Pole. I currently don't have a truck of my own. I am driving a school owned '93 Chevy Suburban and have to fix it on a normal basis. I tried to buy an old '70 Chevy 1/2 ton 4X4 with an inline 6 in it. The family that owns it really don't want to sell it (actually, the guy did, but his wife said no...imagine that....). I had a '66 Chevy 1/2 ton longbed fleetside that only had 80,000 on it. Sold it to my brother and he still has it and plans to restore it (it sat for 15 years after the farmer's son whose estate I bought it from had died and he never drove it again). Anyway, I think I will try to convince this family to give up their '70 again. Hope you don't lose your truck in your big D... though I don't see how she is claiming it since you owned it before and her name was never on the title (if I remember everything you said about it). Good luck with it all.

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

That sucks you weren't able to pick up that '70. Oh well, something will come along.

A few weeks ago, I looked back at the title, and was mistaken earlier, the truck was titled in my name 2 months after we got married. I thought it was before. OOPS. It has been in my name only the entire time though, so hopefully that will mean something. We'll see. It'll either work out, or it won't!

I noticed that on another thread, saw you were in the military, and was going to ask you, but spaced it off. She works in the ER Dept of the military hospital up there. She is not in the Army any more, but still is associated with it.

(edit) I just skimmed through your build, and caught that you work in the OR.

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

Hoping to see an update soon Jason, sucks that she wants the truck out of the divorce. But considering her name wasn't on the title, I don't see how she'd be able to get it. And I think the judge would be very much in the wrong to award it to her. Hopefully it all goes well, and her plans won't work. Sounds to me like you're going through what my dad's friend Dave went through with his first wife.

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

Still waiting on the divorce. We had a pretrial back on 2/10/12, and the judge ordered mediation for property division. Next court date is 3/16/12, so everyone keep your fingers crossed!!

My son and I spent some time working on a radio idea for the truck, or for the next truck, depending on what happens. We also went and helped another site member work on his truck the last couple of weekends. It felt good to actually work on a truck again!!

Good luck. If you need a place to put your truck I have plenty of room and far enough away that no one will find it.

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

why not sell the truck to a friend for around one or two dollars, the court might ask you to split the money 50/50 , not much any way, and then after you are done with the divorce buy it back for the same price

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

I thought about it, but cannot sell or transfer any property after the divorce has been filed. She has been selling things "for living expenses", but they would throw the book at me, so I am not even going to risk it. She doesn't even just want half of the profit, she wants the truck. I'm sure her boyfriend has his eye on it.

I don't think she (they) even realize what all the truck needs. The brakes are shot, all of the wheel cylinders leak, or are frozen, the drums are WAY thin. The clutch is stuck disengaged, and the cylinder for it doesn't seem to do anything. The engine turned over, but I have no idea if it is good or not at this point. There is rust everywhere, normal for these trucks. The wiring is almost totally gone, and or shot. There is a nasty grinding noise coming out of the rear diff when we turn the wheels. Other than those things, plus others I am sure I have forgotten, it is a great truck!! LOL

Next court date is the middle of next month, so hopefully, I will know what is happening then, and be able to move on with my life. I just want to be done with her!!

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

man i hope it all goes well at the end, people now a days do things without thinking about it, im guessing they are hoping to just get the truck and drive it home like if it is in working condition, i wish you good luck on staying with your truck, it is a pretty nice truck, by the way i remember you posting about pics of 60 - 61 long step side , i have a 64 long step side maybe i can upload a picture and you can take a look at it, its almost the same design

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

Any pictures you have of it would be appreciated. I would like to get some from each side, as centered as possible up, down, and left right, that way they are easier for me to mess around with using my LIMITED photo editing capabilities. LOL

If you want to send me some pictures, I can PM you my e-mail address, then they won't be limited down by the sites picture sizing, if that's OK with you.

Thanks you!
