As far as the truck, no real work forward yet. Weather has been cold, low 40s for us is way cold. Still looking to get another head and aquire a few more parts for the rebuild and tweaking.,

Today I drove over to a friends that is over past Lafayette, Louisiana (about 220 miles). Steven (smbrouss70) offered me 2 250 six engines he has for parts. Since our weather has left both of our yards pretty soggy (it will take 6 months of no rain before anything big can go into the yard without sinking), decided just to grab the top ends for now. In a tight old shed, it worked my old muscles for sure getting them off. 50+ year GM torqued head bolts do not come out very easily. They are also heavy with both manifolds on, even with the 2 of us toting them. Dang I am getting old! Couple hours to get them out and loaded, then grabbed some food, then the 3.5 hr drive home. I was too tired and lazy to unload them when I got back, but I now have 3 old style heads now, so hopefully one of them will be good enough to redo and add to the 81 lower end.

Going to talk with the friend/machinist that builds race engines and see what he needs and what level I am going to go with it. Slowly, but I am making some steps (although they are sore at the moment )

Oh, the 3rd picture was his suggestion as a suitable sub for the 250

I'm just glad that they are finally going to be of some use to somebody. Those engines have been sitting in that shed for about 15 years now... as you could tell by the nests surrounding those engines!

Blown big blocks = instant torque!!!!

You might have to window the hood for clearance issues, however...

Near as I can figure so far, the old head has the mounting holes for my AC bracket like the newer style head (small pancake compressor (or whatever they are called). Power steering I am still looking at. I might be able to mod the bracket I have to work. If not I'll find one that will work.

I have also been looking at these folks as they have all kinds of brackets that should work.

Cool to hear about your involvement with Angel Tree. I got to do a ride-along to deliver some angel tree gifts when I was in college. Something I'll never forget. It was in the Central District and one of the deliveries was to an African American (which I'm not) family of two boys whose dad was incarcerated. We knocked and the mother yelled for us to come in. As soon as we opened the door the youngest boy of about 4 ran across the room to me with his arms open. Even though we were bringing them wrapped Christmas gifts, he stayed in my arms until we left. Those of you who are fathers or surrogate fathers, try to never doubt the value and impact of your presence or embrace. Now back to trucks...

That blown big-block is a beast. True injection on top. A far and away dream for me would be to have a relatively stock-looking, long bed C20 with a motor like that stuffed under the hood. The manifold under the blower looks particularly tall and if that was replaced, maybe it would fit under the hood. Spin the injection 180 degrees and open up the cowl for airflow... I would even make frame alterations and exhaust compromises to get that to sit under a stock hood, haha. Probably would have people telling me I needed to tighten my fan belt as I idled by with my secret blower whine. Now back to my 305, already in progress, and your six-in-a-row. Good luck with the work ahead!

I agree LT7a, my wife is one of the main folks for it from our church for the last 10ish years. My part is helping with deliveries, especially if there is a bike (almost every year she and I get some kid one.)

That big block was at my friends shop and yes that is a FAR FAR AWAY dream, but would be cool if I ever won the lottery (which won't happen since I don't buy tickets). Slowly getting my cash together so I can get the work done. on the 6popper.

Good and some bad this weekend. Got the lower half of engine out on Friday evening. Plan on taking the stuff I have, the 81 block, couple old style heads, the 4bbl intake and other stuff to builder this week. Get that old 6 banger going again.

The bad, my DD driver, the 06 died. I was getting ready to drive 4.5 hrs to central Louisiana to get parts for my truck and a friends car. Parked the truck Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, jumped into go, turned the key, it started to fire, then bang and dead. Spent all day I am guessing fuel pump dies but so far it is giving me intermittent indications that it is and is not pump. Stopped after a while yesterday before I got to ticked and smashed it. I'll dive into that again tomorrow morning.

Oh the fun of old and oldish trucks. Good thing is it died at home and not several hundred miles away.

Last bit of parts arrived for the engine redo. Edelbrock 500 and the headers. I also completed throttle cables mount.

The original cables ran thru a mount that was attached to the valve cover on the integrated head. I drilled out the spot welds and removed it from the origainl valve cover.

I then cut the piece off where it mounts to the valve cover bolts and created a new on out of some scrap steel.

Made a new mounting piece and welded it to the original mount. It will now be held down similar to the original using the valve cover bolts. Cleaned up the welds and primed/painted it. I also put a small piece of heat resistant HD rubber under it so that it is not rubbing metal on metal with the old head style valve cover. I think it should hold up and since that was the original way they ran I figured I would not need new cables or fancy (expensive) cable mounts. We will see when it comes back with the engine.

Still waiting on the engine to get done. Been down and out of the weather for a while, but starting to get back into workings again. Wife and I took a trip up north Mississippi to vist the Tupelo Auto Museum before it closes its doors forever. It is a shame, but things like this just don't seem to have the draw as much as they used to.. The collect is great and a whole group of wonderful cars from the 1890's till later.

The Tucker was the real treat. I have seen 2 others in my life, in restored and one that was still driven as a rusty/banged up hulk.
