Thumbs up Re: Where are the stockers?

I like (gomer) too! Brings back memories for me. I learned to drive in a truck almost identical.

Here are a few more I have come across while canvassing the web. Some of them are very near stock and some are a spiced up a bit, but I wanted to share. Enjoy.

Re: Where are the stockers?

This is mine as I bought it in May 2005....

.... complete with "long-range" fuel tank!

Here she is in August 2006, doing duty as back-up truck at our Harley club's rally...

And it's staying pretty much that way too, just had the rusty bits replaced with new metal, seat re-upholstered as can be seen in the slideshow here;

http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...t=aef656e3.pbw

This truck still works part-time, hauling firewood, trash, Harleys, and anything else that I need moving. That's what it was built for, and I like to see old vehicles (and railway locos) doing what they were made to do, not sitting in a museum as dead as a dinosaur skeleton.

Re: Where are the stockers?

^ that big guy is a 63- check the fender emblems- The big trucks used the same grille 62-63, I found this out, I was hoping to find a 63 style big truck grille, then discovered the 2 years were the same on the big ones.

Re: Where are the stockers?

Yeah I learned them when I worked for golden state, then when I was looking for some cowl panels without emblem holes... seems most of the trucks in the yard were 62, or 65.
I so wanted a cool looking big truck 63 grille, since the 456 one is neat I thought the 63 would be special....

Re: Where are the stockers?

My daughter picked this 1960 GMC 910 up in the summer and is working like mad on it so I would consider it a stocker until she swaps out the 3spd and puts in a Turbo 350(with the adaptor kit). Her last car she built was a 58 Pontiac Pathfinder(Canadian model on Chevy chassis) and it ended up sold in Winnipeg Canada. Her boyfriend is a motorhead as well so they spend lots of time together...

Re: Where are the stockers?

Wow, great representations of clean GMC's.I like the original paint colors and tu tones on these GMC's. I have always said GMC got it right the first time with their grilles. Canadian GMC's ( 910's) are interesting because they have Chevy engines and frames.

Re: Where are the stockers?

The only custom touches on mine are fiberglass cowl hood, rear roll pan, filled filler neck, cab seams, and replaced tailgate chains with latches inside the bed, color, wheels, and interior. The drivetrain, frame, and majority of body are stock. The only reason for these changes were to add custom touches, clean up some body lines, and fill the void for parts that couldn't be found. As far as a hood goes mine was rusted out and there's a company nearby that makes fiberglass parts and their only stock 62-66 hood is a pin-on. But besides that, I just wanted to make it a good looking, comfortable show truck and classic cruiser.

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks
