Re: Newtz '68 Burb
So I picked up a gas tank kit from The Truck Shop at the Turlock swap meet yesterday, and went ahead and installed it today. Of course like any other repro stuff, it didn't wanna just go right in. I believe this kit was made more for relocating a gas tank on a pickup, but the box says it is also for 67-72 suburban. The only issue was that the filler neck ended up too low and was pointed straight into the top rail of the frame. Nothing a sawzall couldn't fix. As much as I didn't want to hack the frame up I eventually got tired of muttering obscenities and just went for it. No instructions in the box, so I'm not exactly sure how the two straps are meant to attach to the frame, but they are too short to attach the same as the factory ones, so I just reused my original ones. Here are the pics.

Re: Newtz '68 Burb
It's pretty much exactly the same as the stock tank except for the filler neck. Here's some pics of the old tank for comparison.

Can anyone tell me what the factory tire size may have been on this Suburban?

You know what? I honestly haven't even looked into it yet. Sorry. Just been kinda cruising it around, now that I finally got the gas tank in.

Re: Newtz '68 Burb
Ok found out why my brake lights and the backup lights weren't working. Both of the switches are bad. I ordered a new brake light switch, but I'm not finding a backup light switch that looks exactly the same. Here's what it looks like when it's broken haha. Does anyone have a spare laying around or know the best place to pick one up? Thanks!

Re: Newtz '68 Burb
Nope, they never fail to let me down. I've almost given up on all auto parts stores anymore. Plus I rarely drive into town. You think they might have them?

Re: Newtz '68 Burb
Well they were the only place locally that could get a back up switch for my four on the floor. So maybe. Plus just for fun I found the door jamb switches at autozone for $3 each.

Re: Newtz '68 Burb
I usually just go to their website and you can check the store inventory. If they don't have it in stock, they can usually get it in faster than you can by ordering it online. I do that with Napa all the time.

Thanks! I like the three on the tree, Very cool to cruise around in, although it would be convenient to have an automatic. |
