Re: 86 C10 LS 6.0 6L90E Swap
Awesome truck! Quick question. How do you know that Tejas mounts would prevent you having to cut the floor?
Trying to figure out the simplest way to get an ly6/6l90 into my 86 with the least problems. Can't wait to see it finished! |

Re: 86 C10 LS 6.0 6L90E Swap
I've done quite a bit of talking to the owner over at tejas steelworks about this particular swap, and he assures me that had I used his motor mounts and trans cross member that I wouldn't of had to move the floor. There's a truck out there called Casper that has a 6l90 in it with his mounts, and they didn't have to move it's floor. Give ol Scotty a buzz. He can hook you up with what you need. And he's a cool guy to talk to, with a ton of knowledge to share. Also his electric fan shroud is killer..I used that on my radiator and my temps are right where they need to be even with the air running and the super charger

Re: 86 C10 LS 6.0 6L90E Swap
No problemo. The guys at the shop that's finishing up the swap for me got the blower for it. They had to upgrade the fuel pump, injectors, and coil packs..But I was told it wasn't that big a deal. Also had to get the ctsv wiring harness and computer as the donor truck harness and computer wasn't able to support the addition of the blower

Finished paint and body work on the damaged front fender, and re skinned tailgate. Never mind the bald dude in the tailgate pic. That's the painter. I think he was still high from the paint fumes. Haha

Re: 86 C10 LS 6.0 6L90E Swap
Well guys..we're moving at a snail's pace right now. Got some wheels from a friend, and put those on. The truck is over at a different shop now getting the wiring sorted out for the instrument cluster, cruise control, and transmission. Then a few pulls on the dyno to tune it. So far though everything is checking out. Hydro boost brakes work good, and the new power plant likes its new home in the old square. I had to get a new trailer to haul it around on. The old one was not very car hauling friendly. Also found a guy that sells these nifty steering shafts that eliminate the rag joint.

Look this guy up if you want to delete your rag joint in the 80's model squares. I paid $80 shipped to the house, it was painted and ready to install when I got it. I think he said lead time was about two weeks on getting one assembled and shipped.

I like the way your ride has come together. Nice truck. I have read through your thread, and maybe I just missed it, but what steering column do you have? And how do you have the OD off button and the electric shift button set up? I haven't started a thread yet, but am in the process of swapping an L83/6L80E into my old Jimmy C15.
I appreciate your thread |

Did you keep the air box and intake from the Silverado? I'm hoping to find a used one.

Re: 86 C10 LS 6.0 6L90E Swap
Update. They got the truck running and somewhat driving.. Ish. The wiring harness would not let the computer talk to the trans computer, and we couldn't communicate/tune the motor computer. So. We all stopped, took a step back and figured we would go to another shop. Took the truck to lethal performance in Knoxville. Those guys rewired the truck with a completely New harness made specifically for this particular setup. Pulled the motor computer and the trans computer, had those sent off to get programmed to communicate with each other. Found out the first computer was for a manual trans and could not be reprogrammed for the 6L90E. Having to get another computer that's more suitable for the setup. Fun fun fun. But hopefully all my trials and tribulations will help someone in the future.

Re: 86 C10 LS 6.0 6L90E Swap
Update. Everything is working on the dash board. Both computers talk to each other and now has a working baseline tune in it. Unfortunately we can't go any further. The transmission decided to lose reverse gear, and start slipping in between the forward gears before we could dyno and do the finish tune. Sadly to say, I have spent all of my car funds on this project, and am not able to move forward with this... And if I'm being honest, this project has completely gutted me of my love for square body trucks. I full on hate this stupid truck now and get disgusted every time I see it. Sorry guys..Probably won't be very many more update posts on this particular build. Sorry if i let any of you down.

Re: 86 C10 LS 6.0 6L90E Swap
Ah bummer sorry to hear this. It's never easy doing something uncommon and I have a hard time staying motivated if I can't occasionally drive a project so I get it. Good luck with the sale.

Re: 86 C10 LS 6.0 6L90E Swap
It will be awesome when it's finally done. Though I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I wish I had the skills needed to fix it. If I did, it would be done already. I hate having to farm stuff out and wait on others to do it for me. Sigh.

Didn't you just have the transmission reworked? Warranty?
