Re: Daverods project 66

Got here yesterday. I ran out of paint for my frame and had to order some more. Been busy working need to get some cash for the long winters around here. Starting to think I might have to get a real job. No it can be that bad, yet. Paint should be here today.

Re: Daverods project 66

Ordered some 2" drop blocks for my 64. Got my new ball joints pressed in my A arms for my 66. Scored some rockers for the 64 on ebay. Next winters project. Time to go paint.

Re: Daverods project 66

Hey Daverods, been lurking for awhile. Caught your build thread and got hooked. It brings back good memories of my builds. Through your thread, I felt the comradery and fun of it all and decided to join the forum. It reminded me of a All Chevy Truck Club I belonged to in Salem Oregon about 1996, now gone. Thanks for the inspiration.

Gonna freshen up my 65 LWB.

Please keep the pictures coming, and I'll have a beer on you tonight!

Remember its the journey.....

Re: Daverods project 66

I've been doing everything but working on my truck. Yardwork, real work, shoeing the horses-trying to get in a bear hunt or two, practicing my Guitar Hero.I'm up to "hard "now. Guy in a brown truck brought my a set of rockers from ebay. Still waiting on my 2" lowering blocks. Should get some truck stuff done the next 5 days. Unless I have to go to work.

there is a Vancouver in Canada, it's Vancouver BC....I live in Vancouver Washington which is basically Portland Oregon, all that seperates us is the Columbia River. I'm about 5 hours south of the Canada border and about 5 hours north of the California border. I'm about an hour and a half from the ocean and a long ass ways from you.

Re: Daverods project 66

Thanks. I guess my next thing is to level my engine ,shim my trans and weld the brackets on for axle for my link arms? Not to sure about all that.

Re: Daverods project 66

2 hours into it and a ton of questions. 1) Does the engine need to sit level? I thinking no because if it does I need to shim my trans up 1 1/2". I did'nt really change the postion of the engine. 2) How do I know where to weld the bracket onto the axle? It seems that if I adjust the bottom 4 link arms in or out I can change the angle of the diff. that way. If that is true it's not really that critical where the brackets are mounted? I really have no idea. I guess I better start doing some research. Thought I'd start here.

I did change my transmission cross member so maybe I do need to shim it up 1 1/2?

Re: Daverods project 66

I think your motor is supposed to be like 5 or 6 degrees down in the back. as far as the link bars or at least the brackets, I attached the front of mine where the front of the leaf used to mount, made sure the rear end was in the right spot, adjusted the link bar ends to the middle of their adjustment range, attached the bracket to the link bar and used a jack to hold it up against the axle. it doesn't matter exactly where you put it I guess as long as you leave yourself room to adjust your link bars in either direction.

Re: Daverods project 66

I'm pretty sure the carb needs to level. If I do that the trans/engine is sitting at 4* tilt to the back. This much I know. Found a couple shims, looks like I need about two more. Good thing I have two trucks to work on my blocks just got here. How hard could that be. Guess I'm doing blocks now.

Re: Daverods project 66

Things got alittle Kinda sucks not having a bumper,or a jack that cost more than $40. Had to cut the bolts off so I could get a socket on to tighten it up good . I guess they make them that way just for the fun of it. I know a deep socket would have worked but I was lucky to have a 1 1/8 reg one.
Duct tape, saws- all, grinder and a good time was had by all. Could'nt find any wire.

Went for a test drive, I can see a notch in the furture. Just have to be alittle more careful. Ended up taking my rubber bumpers out. I like the looks better,I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Re: Daverods project 66

Do not forget those tires!! When they are replaced to something more permanent they may change the angles.
Is there a rubber spacer on the transmission mount ?? My TH 350 used a rubber mount block about 1" thick between the tailpiece brace and the crossbar.
I like all the Orange paint! but you should be using Blue as Blue and Orange are the colors of Boise State University . Rated number 2 in the nation in preseason football polls
Go Broncos!!

Yes it has a rubber trans mount. I think the problem is the trans cross member is a new style so you can run the exhaust in the frame. I think I'll just have to shim it up. My tires are 29" tall thats going to be about the size I want. I set my frame to my ride height. When you mess with the air bags up can change the rake to what ever you want so I don't know how important a level carb is?
