Re: 84 with a Dropmember

Updates??

Also, could the rear kit be used to convert a Long Wheel Base frame to short wheelbase? I know that most take about 12" out of the straight section in the frame just past the cab, but why not use this bolt in kit to do the same thing, just use a different set of holes to locate it with? Just an idea that popped in my head...

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

to convert it to a shortbed you need to shorten part in the front and part in the back of the axle , but i think it can be done too .
i'm just not sure if the bed will line up to the holes in the frame

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

Here are a few more pics of the truck.

Those planning on running the Dropmember Rear kit and the fuel cell from Performance Online... You will need to raise the tank, I would recommend 2" if you plan on laying frame. There is maybe 1/2" of ground clearance when aired out... too close for comfort.

This one is 2" deeper than yours... you'll be fine with the Performance Online tank in it's normal mounting position.

It's called a "Cardon Joint" or "CV Joint". It goes on the front side of the driveshaft and prevents the driveshaft from binding at full dump, it also cancels out the driveshaft vibrations. I will see if I can dig up a pic for reference.

I don't think so... but you can ask. I have had a couple other customers in the mid-west who have had difficulty finding a company to make their driveshaft with the CV. I even called the local driveshaft shop in OK for a customer trying to explain what I was needed. It was an interesting conversation! I was told it was impossible to do what I was suggesting... not a safety issue, just IMPOSSIBLE! I told him about the shop here that makes them all day long... he told me to have them build it and then hung up on me!

I have a place here in town that I call... they pick it up and bring it back same day. I can source the joint for you, or even a driveshaft no problem, but need to know what trans you are running, and a measurement from the seal face on the trans output shaft to the center-line of the differential yolk where the u-joint cap fits in place.

The difference in length from the LWB and SWB are in the frame section before it raises to go up over the axle. This notch is built to fit the section of the frame that raises... therefore, it will not work in the way you are suggesting. It would make like a lot easier if it was that simple!

Nate, I am thinking you are talking about a double cardan joint. Looks like this. Lots of 4x4 owners use it.

That's real similar... if not the same. I am not an expert in driveshafts, but have had more than one driveshaft shop tell me it can't be done... never made any sense to me, because the place I use makes it happen in one day!

I knew they were common in the 4x4 world.

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

the joint they where probably thinking about was one thats commonly used on a frontwheeldrive car the ones with the balls in them , and yes those are impossible to use as they can't take the power , they would be nice joints though if they made them big enough

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

If you have a SEVERE drop, it would eliminate u-joint binding at extreme angles. So yeah.

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

Nathan, You do top notch work and I've been watching all your builds. I want one of your dropmembers when I get the funds to do it. Seeing that this truck is stolen is awful! With these boardmembers and the internet, i would think that this truck would stand out, or the parts from this truck. Do you put a serial number on your parts? If you don't, it might be good if you can to log a serial number and who it was sold to. I'll keep an eye out up here in N.C. There's car shows coming up, and with that truck, its bound to show up somewhere. Thats one bad truck and nobody's going to part it out and not show the truck, or its parts. I'll keep watching my local craigslist and car shows for any info on this. Best of luck getting this back.
