I'm just finishing mine up. I only need to weld in my axle pads and I'm done.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
Do the link mounts align using the leaf hanger holes? Would this work on say, I dunno, a 4wd Blazer...?

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
I realized my post was a bit vague. I was speaking of the four-link. My Blazer is already step notched. If the brackets locate off the forward spring hanger holes, then it should align perfectly, since the Blazers and trucks share rear spring dimensions.

The only thing I would need to change is the angle of the forward mounting tabs (they sit at about a 4 degree angle due to the frame taper on the 2WD). Since the 4WD is a straight rail design, I would just need to eliminate the angle on the mount. It's a pretty simple change for me to make. If you are interested, I would just mod a bracket and send it out so you could test fit and verify. Not sure if you would have to modify your floor for front upper bar clearance.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
Well guys, I have emailed Nate and posted elsewhere but I figured I'd give you something semi-interesting to discuss.
Goal is to lay out a 62 LWB with a 63+ frame on air. Front will be the complete PB setup. Options are Rear drop setup using PBs Trailing arm "kit"(all PB parts like notch etc...) Rear drop setup using PBs 4 link kit I would automatically assume the 4 link is better but I have been wrong before. Will be a daily driver including the ND winters(focus on the suspension, not the winter affecting air ride) so any "extra" ground clearance is a plus. Big wheels are on the list of to do, I figure about 29" tire diameter. Most everything I have figured out so stick with the rear suspension differences. Thanks a ton guys! What would you do? |

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
I have been following yours from the start, love it. Yours and a few others have been my main inspiration.
I guess my main question is, suspension performance, which is better? Price wise they are close enough for my budget. Last edited by Ghostwhite; 07-01-2010 at 11:50 AM. |

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
OK GOT ya.I hope to have mine on the road soon. But i went with what I did because i started something and the trailing arms fit what i stared.I would have loved the 4 link but had already started.I have heard that the 4 link rides great .Havent heard much on the trailing arms but I will but a review up when i get it on the road.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
Both setups are legit thats for sure, I had already planned on the T arm setup but now that I have more time and budget, makes me wanna be sure of which I want. I know the 4 link has the advantage of sides but that alone is not enough of an advantage for me

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
Factory truck arms ride great w/bags as well.... PB's set-up won't ride worse.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
hey scoti has any one confirmed that a 12" wide wheel will fit with the trailing arm setup yet? I have this setup on my 69 and the numbers don't look good. I wish i had a couple of wheels so i could see for sure with different back spacing. It is going to be close....

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
I did try and confirm it with nathan but he couldn't say for sure. I didn't mean to upset anyone, the cost of wheels is way to high to mess up and i didn't want to wait. I guess i will be waitting till i can check for myself.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
I don't think anybody is upset. There is room for a 12" wide wheel, but I didn't have an offset to give (I have not yet installed a 12" wide wheel with this set-up), and suggested mock-up and measurement on your end. The last thing any of us want is a custom wheel that doesn't fit right. I will have some good mock up pics and measurements of a 20x10 with a 5.5" backspacing and a 67-69 rear-end here shortly. I will offer all the input and advice that I can... but the backspacing and measurement confirmation will be the end users ultimate responsibility.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
I understand it's up to me nathan to make sure it's going to fit, i was just asking if anyone has done it yet to confirm, because when i had my setup together, (no bed) there was very little room for a 12 wheel. So your 100% right i need to mock it up for myself, but i also need the bed installed to do that right. For me it's aways nice to know that some one else has come up with the same numbers so i can feel better about what i found out. I made up a measuring stick and the wheel guys told me a 12" wheel is 13" across with out having one to measure i am not 100% sure of that. if they are, i had only like 3/4" of an inch before i hit the bag mounts. that didn't give me a good feeling they would fit. I am sorry for being a pain in the butt to everyone but i know you guys know a hell of lot more then me. Plus i am pour and don't have the money to screw up! I just didn't want to wait because the wheels take 4-6 weeks to come in, and the summer will be over before i can get it on the ground. that will make two years with out driving it and i am already in the dog house. thanks Ray

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
A 12" wheel does = 13" lip to lip as the tire bead needs approx .500" to seat.
As for calculating tire sidewall 'bulge', it can be done using other possible combos to get a visual 'feel' for how much room is necessary (a 315mm tire on a 12" wide wheel would have 'bulge' comparable to a 265mm tire on a 10" wheel etc....). Ray, have you considered a 20 (or 22) x11"?
