Re: Historical/ This I know
Argentinia Built Chevrolet trucks between 1964-1966. All were Panoramic View back Glass and had these tailgates. None were produced with any heaters. They came Inline 6 only, no V8's. All the hubcaps seem to be from 60-61 American model.

Re: Historical/ This I know
besides seeing the obvious difference in the tailgate on the silver and black fleetsides than their american cousins.the rear wheel well shape and design are different, also no lower body design front of rear wheel well that matches the front fender, rocker panel and cab corner like the american version.also look closely at the tail light panel, its much thicker than our trucks.these are the first of these trucks that i've seen from argentina.i have seen the brazilian chevy trucks from the 60's and they are a complete different body style.i would have to give these trucks a thumbs up.great pic's.

Re: Historical/ This I know
Note the temp gauge. notice that the green line that connects the low & high reading? in all production models 1964 & 1965 this line was a single thick flat green line. In the 1966 only it was two thin parallel green arches. The instument cluster shown above has a 1966 temp gauge installed.

Re: Historical/ This I know
In my reading of 60-66 trucks, I came across an article explaining the rear trailing arm and coil spring suspension on the Chevrolets. According to the article, during a late '50's (I can't remember the exact year) NASCAR design season, Chevrolet introduced a trailing arm and coil spring rear suspension for the racecars. The same setup used in all NASCAR vehicles today. Then, unlike now, NASCAR rules stated that the cars be built of parts installed on production vehicles. This proposed suspension was not currently scheduled for production so it was incorporated into the Chevrolet line of pickups for the 1960 model year.

Re: Historical/ This I know
What year is this truck? I see it has a '61 grille, a 62-66 hood, and a double hump dash with 64-66 style gauges... Pretty wild...

New Rear Brakes
Just put some new breaks on my 65 gmc fleetside. I knew that the rear end was a leaf spring option on it but did not know how rare they were. The brake shoes & wheel cylinder are the same as the rest. But the drums are not. They are taller about a 1/2 inch. I first took my drums to Les Schwab to have the drums trued up and they said they were to far gone and that I needed new ones, well they had some @ $80 per drum. I knew I could do better cause I checked online and told them no thanks. I went to NAPA and they had a pair that I purchased @ $40 per drum took them home and tried one and it covered all but a 1/2 inch of the shoe. I took them back to NAPA and showed them the difference, allot of head scratch'n going on there finally the parts guy said why don't you have your old ones trued up they don't look so bad. I told him what Les Schwab had said about them being toast and I didn't think they were that bad either. Well NAPA trued them up for $9, good for another 50 years.
Couldn't find the original drums anywhere NAPA had a listing but no part # for them. Just a heads up about tire shops not looking out for the customer be careful out there. Vernski |
