Today I decided I'd go start the truck as I wanted to see how well it started in the cold. It was 25* out, there are no grid heaters, and no, it isn't plugged in. It's been sitting out there for 2 weeks or longer. I was really surprised it fired right up. No coughing, no smoke other than what's normal. It actually started better than my daily driver 12v. (Which I still need to hook up the grid heater on as well.)

I still haven't finished the wiring and lights. Plus the clutch hydros aren't quite right. I'll be solving that soon. And the biggest excuse, I've been trying to get the Excursion running and done.

Heck no. I already catch myself trying to press the clutch pedal whenever I jump into an auto vehicle.

I can't resist the oppurtunity to put a 47RH in it since I have a $1000 triple billet torque converter laying on the floor, and a pretty beefy 47RH sitting in the south bay. This truck being 6200lbs will make for a bad azz weekend warrior. My new rear bumper may add 50lbs over the one on it now. Uh oh

we drive stick here more than slushboxes i can relate to hitting the brakepedal hard trying to clutch in an automatic
i realy have to force myself keeping my leftfoot on the floor so i dont brake 2 footed
when i go from automatic back to stickshift i keep stalling the engine while braking at the trafficlight

i got a job again and having fun at it too

idea's for the trucks and the order of things to do are taking shape and get closer to being realized , a few more months and i be able to start building for real

i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts

That bumper is the light weight performance edition. probably actually lift the rear a little when you install it

The only constant to this truck is change.............................



I love manuals, but I really like to go fast, and that is hard to do in a manual truck with a dual disc. Well, the conversion has begun. It's getting a billet triple disc Goerend torque converter and a built 47RH. I'll put an auto input in the DHD and redo the rear shaft. Now to decide on what floor shifter I want to go with..............

hmmm sumtin like that looks like it can be converted to be used on the steeringcolumb
too bad you dont have the E or you couldve used some paddleshift system

Man, that looks like a heavy chunk of iron! Looking forward to a video of you doing burn outs in this bad boy. Just like the Vette, well at twice the weight.

On mine, I went with the Lokar 16" shifter for the 518, which fits almost cleanly. I originally had the 23" for the 727, but ran into issues with both the mount to the housing as well as the height and the knob hitting the dash pad. The 16" fits in cleanly, and it's a floor mount item.

The only issue I've had with that relates to the angle on the push-rod. Where I wanted it mounted (right over the original shifter hole) made the push-rod go straight down, and I needed to change that around. While it's in there fine, I think that I would have tried to go with a cable shift model instead of the push-rod.

Still haven't gotten the truck on the road, but hope to do it this weekend, and I'll let you know how it shifts.

Sounds good Scott. Whatever I use will be cable for sure. I just haven't decided which way to go. Buy a shifter or build one.

Me too! Now I just have to decide on what tires to get for this. I'm thinking some treadwright retreads to bust some drifts with, then get some soft compound tires for spring and summer.

I had a floor shifter in my 72 GMC in my younger days and as I got older grew tired of it. On my 68 I'm using an automatic column with a lokar cable shift adapter (cable) to shift the 4L60E.

I am seriously thinking of building a cummins chassis for my 67 C20. I am getting tired of 10 mpg...I brought home a 68 C30 longhorn frame to build up and swap bodies.

Would it be possible to build a 5.9/47RH and have it run off the stock auto shifter ? What are the chances of that tranny fitting under a low hump cab ?

i think that he lowered the engine in the frame compared to the stock engine to get it to fit under the stock hood so in his case the tranny will clear fine under the stock hump

Man, it'd be a tight fit fitting it under a low hump floor due to the bell housing height. You might be able to but I can't imagine it'll be any fun to remove and install the trans. Yes, you can use a standard column shift column to shift the 47RH. I just don't want to find a tilt column shift column. Maybe I will, IDK. The yellow burb I did last fall I used a column shift shifter and made a linkage system and it works pretty good. It's a 47RH 5.9 combo.

Wow, 76 pages, so awesome project. Been doing a similar project myself. Went a diiferent direction initially. Tried doing the body swap, big pita. So now I'm back tracking. You wouldn't happen to have made a drawing of your engine & trans. crossmembers. I'm dumping in a 93 12v, NV5600 & NP205 in my 71 K20. Just trying to make up for some lost time. Thanks for any help.
