Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?
They are 88-98 sport rims. Just make sure you don't buy them off of someone selling them as 454 SS rims, because he probably thinks they are special and is asking to much. They were available on every GMT-400 from a base 4.3 all the way up to the 454 SS.
EDIT: I shouldn't saw don't by them just, know that they are likely over prices.

Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?
Heres a couple more pics of my 78... 5.5/8 drop
New front shocks today. Rides like a cadillac. I cant believe how nice it is. Im impressed. Monroe Air-Max air shocks go in the back tomorrow to level it out and provide support for when I throw the dirt bikes in the back. Next week Flowmaster 40's, new exhaust, wheel alignment and repacking the wheel bearings. After that Im going to freshen up the interior with some black and grey dye, good quality seat cover and a nice old skool looking wood and chrome steering wheel. Thats about all Im going to go to it this year. |

Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?
Very Nice!! Not many will have one like yours after you're done!!! I'm always looking for a unique, but well mild custom!! I even owned a 73' Nova 2 door with a 462 cu.in., it was really quiet until you mashed the GO pedal!!! LOL!!!! Made believers of a few Ford and Chevy owners along the way..........a true sleeper for sure!! No one heard me coming, but saw my tailights soon enough!!! Keep up the good work!! Remember, you're the only one that you have to please..........build it like you would build the perfect woman, LOL!!! (That could get me into trouble fast!!!)
Good Luck, Dude!!!

Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?
Is it weird sometimes I wish I had a really beat up old truck to rat rod? I love my truck, but it's too nice to do anything cool to it, gosh....I'm such a stickler for originality and leaving the truck "how I got it" haha
Here Charlie is trying on a rail I took off from my other truck

Summit racing flip kit removed a bunch of leafs, leaving 4 + overload 1" lowering blocks 4 degree shims all new U-bolts and leaf bolts new low profile bump stops Monroe Max-Air air shocks with onboard compressor. Front: Chopped off 2 coils and then fine tuned about another 1" of drop by heating the springs properly and let cool overnight before driving. Truck had blocks under the frame rails to maintain height while cooling. Removed bump stops Monroe HD shocks Rides just like factory. If anything, its too soft as i prefer stiffer suspension. The new shocks made a HUGE difference. Air shocks should be in tomorrow so then i can adjust the height in the rear. After i see how it looks with the truck actually level, I might want it lower. If so I have some 215/70R15 tires I can put on and that will drop the whole thing another inch. Its got huge tires on it right now. Over the winter I will put in 2.5" drop spindles with air bags to lay it on the frame, but for now this is good enough. |

Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?
Very cool!!
Those are just like my extra set of tires i have. Mine are white walls also but i think they might be 215/70R15. I think i better put them on. Those white walls looks so much better! |

Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?
POlishing aluminum is fairly easy. Any chrome plating shop can polish them for you or you can do it yourself if you have some basic tools. You can even get attachments for your cordless drill for polishing wheels. Combine that with a little metal polish and you will have a mirror like finish. If the wheels are really rough, you can sand them out first but thats getting into a lot of work. You can always get your factory wheels chrome plated. Less maintanance to keep them shiney.
