Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Slow night, its Monday and rainy and cold here in Lindsay...

Did not really do anything. Painted the other side of my rad support and looked at my grill.

When the time comes I will likely go with an all silver grill, and get a decal made for the bowtie.

It looks like it has had some awful touch up in the past.

I would have to measure it. Not really worried about it at the moment. In between watching paint dry I started looking at it and thinking.

Then I said enough for tonight... came inside. To damp and cold.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

One of those nights where you have a plan and vision of what you want to get accomplished....

Then you realize the parts you picked out are too short.... I have been trying to get the master cylinder on for a few nights now. No luck. Tomorrow is the night.

In the mean time I flushed and washed my rad. I will be smoothing out the tanks and bringing in back to a gloss black.

At the same time I pressure washed my driver side inner fender. Its ready for some more paint stripper.

And finally I picked up my header "toobs" for my block hugger headers. Looking forward to getting the flanges welded up and have them hanging. I plan to build my own exhaust. Should be easy as it is a pretty straight go to the back.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

you have inspired me i looked at the bigasstruck.com site and man they make some good looking trucks. my local vollenteer fire dept has a late 70s c50 with a big ass water tank on it with all the pumps and hoses. i talked with the chief today and they need to get rid of it. i plan to be the one to get it as well. i am going to a meeting monday night our monthly vfd member meeting and we will vote to have a closed bid auction for it. its just the truck the tank and pumps stay with the department.

the truck is in great condition condition. i hope to take some pics tomorrow its th the pasture and it was storming all day today. its a gas burner so i am hoping its a bbc. i will pop the hood tomorrow.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Got the rad cleaned up and painted tonight.

Finally got my master cylinder on. Finally, ha...

Put a new heater in the truck, and re mounted the heater box and blower motor. Put new heater hose on the truck.

Painted the mount for the rad support.

Butch86, good stuff my man. Would love to see some photos of this truck. Having the water tank is a bonus in my eyes, not sure what scrap prices are where you live, but they have been pretty decent up here. It is always great to have something subsidize the project.

I really enjoy this truck, after seeing bigasstrux.com I knew I wanted to build this kind of truck. I am looking forward to having it rolling through the streets of my town, it will be truly unique to the area.

Good luck in your sealed bid...

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

man your doing a great job its awsome to see the care and time your taking and not running around paying shops to do the things most of us enjoy doing for satisfaction and pride.

gonna take picks of the truck in a few minutes. the water tank and pumps will be left with the fire dept. we need it for another tanker truck we are building on a newer truck platform a 2010 international. i really hope the powers that bee decide to let it go.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Came home and cut grass... I am not a fan of this time of year... Got done, ate and now its poring rain.

Kind of lost my momentum for the evening.

Did get the rad support mounted.

Bought some sound insulation today for the cab. Looks good, but then again I have never used this stuff before. Time will tell I suppose...
