Good news....the beast is finally road ready...bad news is im out of town for a week....i will pick it up next wednesday or thursday... ..stay tuned!

I picked it up last week and was so frustrated i nearly thought about selling it!!

The battery was not charging- i found the alternator did not have 12v to the voltage regulator so it wasnt charging, the starter had abad wire crimp that kept popping out and another extremely loose connection.

There is a fuel leak on a vent from the injector pump

the dakota digital tach interface is not working

Pyrometer switch was loose

The heat valve for the AC/heat was installed backwards, the ground for the AC switch was removed.

I have been a little busy and all that is left from this list is the fuel leak and tach issue.

no mileage updates for you yet but maybe by the end of the month.

I still need to tighten some other bolts, install the hitch, charge the AC system, anchor some parts that are vibrating excessively, wire the grid heater, get rear shocks measured, install tow hooks, adjust a couple trim clips, have the doors re-aligned, some paint fixed, tint fixed in 2 windows, install a cage on the trans cooler.

i was also thinking about a trans tempt gauge.

I am also having a hell of a time finding these mirrors. i have found some but the legs are either too short (10") and narrow or way too long.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think those are early mirrors. The shorter legs are the ones that are correct for the '72. They tie into the door at the top just below the trim piece and the lower legs are shorter (like the ones on my Sub). They use the same mirror head. PM tkorinek. He probably has either variety and others not mentioned here.

I found some mirrors. aparently these ones were only made for about a year between 69 and 70.

AC is functioning great
i have one mirror installed and waiting for some more well nuts to show up to do the passenger mirror.
i have fixed all of the leaks and mounted my hitch.
During the troubleshooting of my charging system i had my battery load tested (rated at 930cca) producing over 1500cca.
The tac hasnt been finished yet and i am awaiting a new speed sensor
I upgraded the old tailgate supports

We drove from portland area to bend. on the trip out we averaged about 22mpg and on the way home about 26mpg.

Those are some real nice mileage numbers. How was the power?? What was the terrain?? Any big hills?? What kind of EGT's were you running??

It's nice to finally use it instead of just incessantly working on it. Congrats!!

pyro gauage was reading between 6-800 most of the trip more when i was on a steep climb, lots of elevation change. the santiam pass is nearly 5,000ft elevation. sherwood where we starter is about 500ft. sisters and bend area are about 3,00ft. power was great. I am interested to see what MPG i get around town and maybe down a longer I-5 trip.

the aftermarket door seals i purchased wont hold any adhesive....just ordered the Press on door seals from GMC paul. cant wait to install them

That is an odd problem to have. What brand were the seals you used??

I am very interested to hear how the press-on seals work out for you. Maybe do an install overview and review?? I'm not thrilled with my door seals on the front doors (A&M Soffseal). The rear door has Precision weatherstrip and I like that a lot more, but I am interested to hear how you like the ones from GMC Paul.

those are from classic parts, and i am also experiencing deterioration on the anti rattle kit after a couple weeks where my arm rests on the rubber portion (apparently GMCpauls anti rattle kit is way better also) i might be ordering those soon as well

Do remember if the 2WD and 4WD frames were the same? I cant really tell from the pictures. I'd like to do something similar but my 4WD frame has more rust than the 2WD frame.

Nice work on your swap! It looks and sounds great!

Goldenburb, if you use a 47rh trans, you can bolt it to a 4bt by using a 94-02 6bt 5.9 dodge cummins adapter plate.

On my first trip from bend to portland over santiam pass, averaging about 60-65 mph with a 4 speed OD trans we nailed a solid 26mpg.
I dont have a working tach yet so hopefully as the motor breaks in and i get the tach working i can better manage fuel consumptions
