Re: Parked Indefinite
Thanks guys!
Flipped the box on today and as expected I'm going to have to lower the sides down/raise the floor. Have an idea of what to do and will hopefully get started tomorrow |

Rounded out the day by dropping the driver side and bulkhead down to match the rest. I thought this was going to be a bit of a job, but turned out to be piss easy! Few pics: |

This is the type of thread that gets other guys out to work on their trucks.
Wow, great job. Tons of custom work. I'd like to see a vid of this going down the track! |

Re: Parked Indefinite
I'm guessing he cut the inner bedsides at the lip where the floor bolts, and removed x amount and welded the lip back on. Then did the same to the front bed panel. That's just my guess though.

Re: Parked Indefinite
Sorry for the lack of update guys, just hasn't been much progress to share. Anyways, as far as the box raising, I decided to move the floor up 3.5" so it would be even with the body line on the inside of the box. Even though I only had a body channel of 2" to deal with, the extra 1.5" gave me some extra room underneath for exhaust, fuel cell, axle, etc. Also it made it so the wheel tub would land on the upper body line inside the box. Just had to make some 1.5" risers which you can see here:
Back to the box itself, I wanted to avoid welding along the entire length of the box side, so when I just drilled new holes 3.5" up from the old ones. On the uppermost holes, where you can't reach underneath to put a nut on, I just welded nuts where they needed to be: For the bulkhead i bought some 1/4" x 1" flat bar to make up for the gap that occurs when you lower it down the 3.5'". I drilled and tapped the bar to correspond to the holes in the box floor and drilled bigger holes in between so I could plug weld the bar to the bulk head. Here's a pic of it bolted back in place with the bar in between: I was going to do the same thing with the gaps in between the tubs, but haven't got around to doing it yet, but here's a pic the shows the bar better: Last thing I had to do was cut a square section out of the floor at the back so the box sides could slide down. Didn't get a pic of that unfortunately, but maybe you can see it in this pic: Hope that clears it up! |

Re: Parked Indefinite
Nice work! I like that you still have a usable stock looking bed, unlike many that you see on here.

Think I'm pretty much done with the fuel door, though I might try to even out the gaps a little more. Here's how it came out: |

Re: Parked Indefinite
I'm really digging the fuel door. How do you get it opened without prying up on the edge?

Re: Parked Indefinite
You got me! I haven't quite figured that part out yet, but for the meantime i just have a magnet on it. Something to grab on to for now, but easy enough to take off when I know what I'm going to do
