Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Man the plating is awesome! Was the $$ painful? I'd love to do some of my bits and pieces up like that.

It isn't that much $ the more pieces you have. Most have a minimum charge. Mine plater is $90 min for zinc so the idea is the more you get done at once the better.

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Jeff thanks for sharing. Isn't it surprising how good the end result is? Two thumbs up! How do you like the result on the speaker grill? If good I may follow suit. Best, Pete

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
It all looks fantastic! I'm afraid I'm nowhere near as organized as you are. With a site like this, who needs to bag-n-tag? It'd end up being $90 per bolt for me! A little humor there but really, I'll be digging through buckets for missing screws for sure.

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Thanks everyone for the compliments. I'm pleased with it all.
Pete, Yes I really like the way the speaker grill came out. I was afraid of painting it. I was worried the paint might fill in the very small perforated holes. I guess I could have tried paint first and then just media blasted it clean and tried this after if it didn't work out. I didn't bag and label very much when tore down and am regretting it now. I wasn't initially planning on having it apart for 2 years but I should have know better. I've been separating it here and there in to piles by type and about 90% I know where it goes. Once I'm down to left over pieces I will be asking for a lot of help with what is left. Now that I'm going through it I'm noticing I'm missing 2 pieces in the black. One door striker shim and the clamp that goes around the gas fill hoses at the Left rear splash shield. Looks like I'll be calling my plater Monday AM to track them down.

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Jeff in going through some boxes today I came across several parkerized door striker shims. If you can't track down your missing example I'm happy to replace it.

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Thank you Pete for the offer. My plater has never lost anything before and they were literally removing the parts from the rack when I got there end of day Friday. Hopefully they just got missed. I'll know more in a day or two.

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Pete so the plater found the missing Door latch shim as well as some washers and stuff I didn't realize were missing. I guess a few small parts got left to another batch by mistake.
Never had the Fuel fill hose clamp they claim and now I'm second guessing myself if I had it in the box. Can't find it so i posted a WTB ad and my plater had offered a free batch of work since I'm still insistent it was in there.

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
I stopped at the Body shop after work today. They had some black coloured powder type stuff all over the body and were doing some final blocking in 600. I can't remember what he called it but it is to help see if there is any imperfections. I'm sure all you body work people know what it is.
Also were cleaning up a bunch of parts and masking off all the Interior prepping for exterior Paint. The underside is already masked off. He told me tomorrow afternoon it would be going in to the booth for the exterior Painting of everything (tub, doors, tailgate, fenders, hood, cowl, etc). I've been hearing that for 3 weeks so I won't hold my breath but here's hoping.

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Glad the shim turned up. Is the clamp you are after a typical tower clamp? I may have a spare if so. Chassis looks great.

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Anxious to see that tub on the chassis! Are they going to hang the panels or is all that coming home in pieces?

The plan right now is for them to fit everything proper and then remove the hood and maybe inner fenders for me to do the wiring and finish the engine compartment.

This is the black powder you were talking about. Excellent stuff, and much better than the rattle can primer we used to use. Dan [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
Well eureka we have exterior paint. The body shop owner sent me a couple of pics as he was leaving work for the night. It was still getting painted at the time so these are just teaser pics from through a window. He couldn't go in the booth yet, it wasn't done.
It will sit in the booth over the weekend and then take it out Monday morning. I'm going to stop around Monday morning to drop off the body mounts so they can get the tub off the dolly and at least set back on the Chassis. These aren't very good pictures yet, I'm just a little excited !!

Re: tjs 72 Blazer Build
So I could have swore I sent the fuel fill hose clamp to have plated in black zinc and they misplaced it, however, today I was going through a bunch of powder coated parts and look what I found.
So after posting a WTB ad and a couple of members looking for me, it turns out I lost track of plating vs. powder parts. Anyways, thanks to Pete and Dwayne for helping me out. Now I need to go to the Platers this week with my tail between my legs ... I'm just glad that I wasn't upset or angry when I spoke to him about it.

Stopped by the body shop this morning when they wheeled the stuff out of the booth. I didn't take a lot of time to inspect it all but at least it was shiney.
