Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

Got the front all blasted and painted and for the most part together... Just have to throw the axles in n spindles n brakes... Then it will be time for the back... I managed to find a good set of shackel mounts for the front blasted n painted n bolted them on ... I didn't want to spray the leaf springs but the dull black just doesn't look as nice as the frame so I guess ill do them aswell

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

Question for anyone who has changed out there wheel studs. I'm looking for an extra 1/2" longer wheel stud for my front diff. Just want a little more thread for when the wheels get bolted on... This is all I need for the front and it will be done

Started on the rear it is all painted now and cleaned out... Apparently the 14 bolt in my truck has a one year pilot bearing for the pinion support that is now discontinued so after looking and calling around I managed to find one which should be hear today. Then all I need is the rear drums to show up and the rear diff will be finished...

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

Looks like you are making lots of progress on your truck! Hey just wondering if you have any pics of your rear driveline setup with the crossmember and carrier bearing in place? I am building an 86 crew cab thats going from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive. It didnt have any drive train in it when I bought it and I think it had an aux overdrive in it at one time. I dont have any driveline or the crossmember for the carrier bearing so I was wondering what the crossmember looks like and where its located on the frame.

Thanks,
Mike in Idaho

If you scroll up to where my frames painted just directly below the rear cab mounts is where my steady bearing was mounted ... Due to going a divorced transfer case I eliminated the steady bearing and now run equal length drive shafts front and rear.

Most parts stores have a Dorman catalog and you should be able to find studs in it by the specs of the collar and knurled area length and dia., over all length, and over all dia. I did this on my D60 a long time ago and I know I didn't save any part numbers.

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

Yeah I didn't want to go the factory 2.5 stud I wanted to go at least 3 inches overall I might end up putting the factory ones in for the time being seeing there's still lots of time before this trucks completed... I finally got my discontinued pinion pilot bearing... Yucky 120 bucks... Another problem I ran into my eaton posi unit the factory bolt are to short to go threw the carrier into the ring gear so now I have to try n track those down... Yay one thing after another.

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

I put longer wheel studs on my chevy axles on my 84 3/4 ton cause the aluminum wheels needed the extra length. Go online and look up the dorman wheel stud catalog. Has everything dorman makes with specs and pics. I went a good 1/2 inch longer front and rear.

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

Got a few odds and ends done the motor is tore apart as far as I'm going to go... Basically short block got it all cleaned up and sprayed black... Heads all tore apart gonna clean it up stick new valve seals in it and spray it... Then tweak the injection pump a bit and so on and so forth...pick away... Waiting to get a new proportioning valve and start doing brake lines get the plumbing in the frame done anyways... The diffs killed my bank account so I'm working with everything I have which will keep me busy for a while yet

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

I'm not looking for nothing crazy... I was looking at some injectors from bd diesel either 45 or 60 hp then a 3 piece manifold and a superb single turbo... But I have lots of other things to tie up first.. Brake lines fuel lines pump sending unit all the good stuff

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

I honestly don't remember I found the info on this site I believe it was 14 inches that's cut out of the frame...

Have most of the cab blocked down a few areas to touch up and then i will re prime the cab again hopefully for the last time before paint

Browsing threw my photos n come a cross a good photo if my first vehicle and build ... Was a learning experience for me and I wish I wouldn't have sold it... Well more like give away... Gettin it's yearly detail before the strip

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

Well waiting for the lift pump and some russel fitting for the fuel lines, also have the proportioning valve coming all the brake lines and fitting... So back to body work till that stuff shows up... Blocked out the epoxy primer find my problems areas and got em all beat out and filled and blocked... Just need to get it up on stands and do the rockers and it will be ready for a coat of epoxy primer followed up by some Polly high build... Depending in how long the brake and fuel parts take to show up I might even get the box sided blocked down and shot in high build aswell

Got some new skins to compliment the lift in my truck.. Fit good and no rubbing... 325-65-r18... 35x 13.5... Was going to work on the truck today but the gfs bike needs a battery and trying to help a guy finish up a dmax swap into a 98 crew cab short box dually... Just trying to make the intercooler, ac condenser, trans and engine oil coolers fit behind the grill

Re: My crewcab 4x4 cummins project

Got my front end set back on just so I could hold the rad support while I cut n hacked it up... Got it all cut open and supports removed n replaced with 3/4inch square tubing around the outside edge of the intercooler... Not pictured but the top mounts are in just have to build something to hold the bottem... Going to order paint and bed liner and hopefully get the fire wall sprayed and the cab floor inside so I can get it back on the frame.
