Re: Zane's Ride
I got emails from both instructors yesterday. In Auto Body, rust repair has been going on; body should be ready for primer soon, and then the bed will go to the wood shop for the new bed. In Auto Repair, the frame will be back from sandblasting late April, and then work will begin on the suspension. Engine went to the machine shop for cleaning and assessment. Progress!

Re: Zane's Ride
Bronze,
Could you please check the heads and let me know if the V-cover bolt holes are a square pattern or are the two on top closer together than the bottom ones. I've got a nice set of script valve covers, but they are the earlier ones with the offset bolt pattern. They sure are yours if they fit. I have no idea when the design break happened. BTW.....don't be shy about puttin' up more info.....and pictures. We all like seeing what's going on.

Re: Zane's Ride
Thanks, AT. I am also going to the school on 5/9 to get a visual update and more photos to post. It is only 3 weeks until school is out, so I am eager to see the latest before the summer break.

Re: Zane's Ride
Yeeeeehaw...
I'm sure you've all been busy doin the break-up happy-dance. I've been tied up for a few days on special projects.......Our spring-time is certainly glorious down here, but more than any other earthly event, I miss watching and hearing (and feeling) the ice going out up there in your parts.. We used to hike back to the bluffs of the Copper from the house and stand there with our mouths agape for hours. Words fall feebly short (at least my words) of describing the breathtaking violence that drives back the silence of winters deep freeze, clearing those rivers for the summer runs. Pieces of ice three feet thick and a half an acre in size weighing in at thousands of tons flipping and bouncing, snapping and popping and riding up and over each other....coursing and thundering towards the Delta........ and finally salt water. Most folks could never even imagine those things that make up a day in your lives.....just any old regular day. To see Gods work first hand ....in real time, is an absolute miracle. That would be what's referred to as "Creation by Destruction". I sure got side tracked. Hope all's well with you and yours. Looking forward to the next update.

Re: Zane's Ride
Hey,all. Break up was quick this year! Fortunately the mud did not linger, as it usually does. I finally have some photos. I had pizza delivered to the kids working on the project, and there are also pics of the body in the paint booth getting primed. They should be ready for paint in the Fall when school starts again. Let see if I can successfully attach some pics.

Re: Zane's Ride
The engine is at a local engine shop for rebuild over the summer. I will have more news in September. Hope you all have a wonderful July 4. God Bless America.

Re: Zane's Ride
Had a bake sale/lemonade stand/sno cone stand last Saturday at our local Walmart, and raised nearly $750!!! And, school has started, so in a couple of weeks, I will contact the instructors and talk about the plan for the project this school year. 198plus, I will go to our local auto paint store and choose a color, and let you know (along with a time frame of when we need the paint); CRGR, do you have the "Zane's Ride" emblem for the glove box? When I talk to the instructors, I will find out how the engine remachine/rebuild looks (done at a local machine shop), and hopefully have pics. Thanks, everyone!

Re: Zane's Ride
Attaching photos from the engine; and here is a message from the auto repair instructor: today we should have the timing chain, front cover, oil pump and oil pan installed. That would make for a complete short-block! Cylinder heads next week.

Re: Zane's Ride
The latest from the instructors at Hutchison High School auto program working on the Zane's Ride project:
"I have had my advanced student working on the cab, it is getting closer for another coat of primer. I had a friend drop off an intake manifold and thermostat. First week of November the Advanced Auto students will be finishing up the engine (intake, valve covers and paint). The engine will then be ready for some serious pictures! We will be moving into brakes and suspension soon, so the drivetrain will be making some serious gains." AWESOME!! I will post photos as soon as I get them. I also had some fundraising help from the daughters of a couple of my coworkers. They are very industrious, and made hundreds of rubber band bracelets and helped me sell them at our local mall. We made a total of $735!!!
