For a first timer on the gun, those fenders look really good.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Got some more epoxy shot on the inside of the fenders today. I learned a lot from my last paint session, I still made a few mistakes but overall it came out pretty good. I accidentally spilled a couple drops of paint out of the top of the gun but no big deal I'll just sand them out. I also think I need to rig something up to hang the fenders instead of trying to spray them laying down.

Yes but the satisfaction of doing it yourself is irreplaceable. I'll be great.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
For the primer, laying down the fenders is ok. I have always hung the fenders and doors the direction they would be when installed on the truck. I was told a long time ago, that helps the paint "lay down" the same direction as it will be seen. Not sure that means anything these days with the newest paints and the final cut and buff.
Looks like you are doing a great job. I done a few cars/trucks in my time, I still make mistakes..

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Looking great!
The only trouble with hanging parts is that they swing around some while you shoot. If you kind of splay the wire, string, whatever you use it'll help. Once you've got them hung, use a few air blasts to see how it goes.

Thanks for the tip, I'll probably use wire to hang them. Hopefully I can get it to work out for me.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Well after a couple of spray sessions in the garage and dealing with the overspray and the fumes I decided to move to plan B and figure out a better place to spray my panels. So I bought a 10x17 enclosed garage tent from Harbor Freight for $160.00 with a 20% coupon and set it up in the backyard today. Now I have a place to spray without having to worry about covering everything in the garage because of overspray or the fumes getting into the house. My garage is attached to my house and enters into the kitchen. Now I can hang my panels and spray them as if they were on the truck. Still need to figure out what to do with the floor, will probably line it with plastic for now.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Keith,i have the same pop up garage and it has survived 2 years now.Just dont leave snow on the roof !
Great idea to spray in there.Plenty of room and no overspray in the garage. I just throw a tarp down on the ground when i paint in mine. Panels are looking good.Your a painter and didnt even know it !

Yeah I knew I had to do something when she went to walk into the garage to do laundry on Friday night and said something to me about the dust cloud in the air. I figured for $160 it was definitely worth a try, I picked it up from Harbor Freight yesterday and she helped me put it together today.

Like the tent Keith! Be careful, buddy of mine did the same thing, neighbors thought he was "cooking meth". They called the cops on him........

That's crazy, I didn't even think of that. I don't know how the neighbors will react when I tell them I'm painting in it either

Looking good Keith. How does it feel getting some color on, even if it's the same color as the fenders were originally.
