I found "THE" engine

checked out Jegs the other day and they added this crate engine to their line. Not bad for a 383....eh

Horsepower: 425 @ 5400 RPM
* Torque: 460 lb-ft @ 4500 RPM
* Compression Ratio: 9.7:1
* Block: Cast Iron, 4-Bolt Main, 1-piece rear main seal
* Crankshaft: Forged 4340 Steel, Externally Balanced
* Connecting Rod: Powdered Metal (Special ''383'' Version)
* Pistons: Hypereutectic Flat top with offset pins
* Camshaft: hydraulic roller, 222°/230° @ .050'', .509''/.528'' lift, 112° centerlobe
* Cylinder Heads: Aluminum Fast Burn 62cc chamber, 210cc intake runners, 2.00'' hollow stem intake/1.55'' sodium filled exhaust valves, LT4 Corvette valve springs and lightweight retainers, D-shaped exhaust ports and dual bolt pattern intake manifold and valve cover configurations
* Rockers: 1.5:1 Aluminum full roller, self-aligning

along with a stage 3, 700r4 and a lim slip and I'll be set...... Oh yeah I need money. I better get a good paying job this summer. Donations are welcome also

That pic is not the 383. That's the 572 big block.

Personally, I'd rather Have the 350 H.O. with a XE274 cam swap and uprgraded valve springs. THAT (in 350cid) would perform aswell if not better than that, for less money.

The 383 is about $4600.... while the big blocks 620 HP and 720HP are about 15,000 and 16,000 respectively

hows a cam swap gonna give you close to 100 hp and 80 ft/lbs? i think i'd much rather have the 383. the more cubes the better

You are posatively insane to pay $4600 for a 425hp 383. I could build that power and reliable of a 383 for $2500.

Oh, I'm sure anyone with a good mechanical backround could built one for cheap..... but I'm what they call...... DUMB when it comes to this kinda stuff. Throw labour on top of the parts and I figer it's a pretty good deal for not knowing much. I could probly throw it in a truck but that would still take some learning for me.

yuo should give ProStock in Edmonton a call i'll bet they can give a good price and since your pretty close you won't have to pay all that shipping and put the money towards other parts.

Check out www.larrysperformance.com. Thay quoted me a 383 shortblock running 10:1 forged TRW pistons fully assembled, balanced and blue printed shipped to my house for $1500. Now you take that 383, have larry's throw some big ol' afr heads on there and a holley double pumper, you now have a motor with about 100 hp/ 100 ft lb more power for less that that 4600. Can't beat that!
