Headers on a 4x4
Anyone have headers on a 4x4? Which ones work? I have a 71 and would love the added low-end torque from a set of long-tubes.

Well, on O'Reb, my old 71 GMC short bed 4X4, I had a built 350 with Hooker headers. She ran like a dog in heat, and faster than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. They did rust over quickly, but didn't bother me when wading through deep Mississippi red clay......oh them days before I moved to the north just a month ago...

My 72 4x4 came with Hooker Competition (not Super Comps) and they seem to fit nice. I'm thinking about having the coated sometime to make them look nicer. I have headers on my 72, and from the looks of it, just about any long tube header will fit. I dont know what brand mine are, since they were put on by the PO, and they have since rusted over. The only place mine come close to anything is the front driveshaft, but they clear that by about 1/4 inch.

I have Hedman headers on my '69 c-10 I have a impala 327 and they work great, lots of low-end, and great sound

I just installed hooker competition headers in my 72 Blazer 4wd with a 4-speed (stock height). They fit very nicely and I didn't have to modify the clutch linkage like most other manufactures say. I even took a wire wheel to the headers and put the high temp silver header coating on them. I had both Por 15 and Eastwood coating, so I did a test to see which one is better. I used Por 15 on my right side and Eastwood on the left side. I would highly recommend the Eastwood over the Por 15. If this is something people are going to do, have someone blast them instead of wire wheeling them. The wire wheel took a lot of time and in some spots it didn’t really stick to the headers very well after it warmed up.
